Strata Solar is setting up a 55 MW battery solar storage facility on lot 6 at the Southern Virginia Megasite at Berry Hill. A 125 MW solar facility will be paired with it. This new facility is part of a broader effort to enhance the site’s infrastructure and support large industrial operations.

The Strata Solar facility at the Southern Virginia Megasite is designed to generate and store renewable energy. The 125 MW solar facility will produce electricity from sunlight, while the 55 MW battery storage system will store excess energy for later use.

However, specific details about the duration of the battery storage system at this site are not readily available from current published information. Typically, the duration of a battery storage system depends on its design and intended use. For example, a 55 MW battery could have a duration of 1 hour (55 MWh) or more, depending on how it’s configured.

TODDLER RESCUED FROM RIVER

A toddler is in stable condition after being rescued from the Dan River by two Eden Police officers after falling into the water Tuesday afternoon, May 21.

At around 12:43 p.m., the three-year-old slipped from the metal river access steps at Leaksville Landing on N.C. 87 near Uptown Eden, according to the Police Department.

Within moments, officers arrived and began searching the river banks and water looking for the child, who was spotted floating in the river face down without a life vest, according to a news release.

“Officer Josh Roberts and Officer Timothy Knight entered the swollen river in full police gear to retrieve the child. Officer Roberts grabbed the child and swam to safety with Officer Knight assisting in the swift water rescue,” states the news release. “Once on dry land, the child was passed to Lt. Andy Johnson, who climbed the hillside to get the child to stable ground, where he and firefighter Mike Farmer immediately began life saving measures.”

Once officers realized Rockingham County EMS was unable to reach their location, Officer Roberts and Officer Knight grabbed the child and sprinted to the ambulance, according to the news release.

The child was delivered to Rockingham County EMS personnel who continued life-saving measures. Patrol officers then cleared the roadway for EMS to transport the child to UNC Health Rockingham.

“Special thanks to Fireman Mike Farmer and Rockingham County EMS personnel for assisting in this life saving incident,” concludes the news release.

TORANGO HONORED AT UNC HEALTH ROCKINGHAM

Carolyn Torango, RN, was honored with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses during UNC Health Rockingham’s Hospital Week celebration. Hospital nursing leadership along with senior administrators gathered on the unit to celebrate Torango with her fellow night-shift nursing and hospitalist teammates.

A DAISY nomination for Torango came from a patient whose first visit to a hospital was for a major surgery. The patient shared that as their nurse, Torango was “exceptional” with her willingness to answer questions and provide comfort during this time of uncertainty. The patient concluded that their time at the hospital was great thanks to the care received from Torango and the team at UNC Health Rockingham.

Torango has been a registered nurse at the hospital for 38 years, serving for the duration as part of the med-surg team. She dedicated her life to becoming a nurse because she loves helping people. She has no plans leave the field any time soon as serving her community is her passion.

Additionally, Torango’s outstanding nursing was recognized by long-time colleague, Natik Panwala, PA, a hospitalist at UNC Health Rockingham.

“Mrs. Torango exemplifies the epitome of excellence in nursing. Her unwavering commitment to her patients and the nursing profession is truly commendable,” said Panwala. “She embodies the spirit of teamwork, embracing the core qualities of our UNC Health One Great Team philosophy. Her collaborative nature and willingness to support her fellow nurses make her an invaluable asset to our team. She is a beacon of professionalism, compassion, and expertise in our healthcare community.”

When asked about receiving the award, Torango said, “Receiving the DAISY award makes me feel wonderful. I am so happy and grateful to be recognized not only by a patient, but also by a co-worker for what I do every day for my patients.”

The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died from complications of the autoimmune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) at the age of 33. His family wanted a meaningful way to recognize and honor nurses who, like those caring for Barnes and his family, provide excellent clinical care while showing great compassion for their patients. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem.
