You may know that Peter and I recorded our new album last spring. We re-listened and edited a few places throughout the summer and now the CD will be released globally on October 11. Just before I left for a meeting of the Society of Norwegian Composers in Oslo, (Norway) this summer, an old friend and neighbor contacted me to ask if I would be interested in setting a few new poems to music. I had worked with Beverly before, writing “Two Poems” scored for soprano, oboe and piano. I said yes to the new challenge, and the result was “The Soul Wept” with poetry by New England poet Lois Sargent. It was originally written for mezzo soprano, violin, cello and piano. A new version for voice and piano was requested and delivered. Yesterday, when I surfed on the internet, I found that the earlier work, “Two Poems”, had been video taped by colleagues at UW-Eau Claire for the IDRS (International Double Reed Society) meeting during the pandemic. The performance is great and I want to share it with you. I can’t recall if I ever knew of this recording. Pianist Alex Woods asked the owner of CRS if some of the music on the newly released CD could be shown on YouTube. John agreed, and I have now posted my Nine Suggestive Sketches, written for my mother, pianist Karen Hennings Lunde's 70th in 1976. The complete score has been posted and several art works by the Norwegian painter Theodor Kittelsen are featured as well. Kittelsen was the illustrator of many a Norwegian fairytale.
Alex did a fantastic job learning my music. I don't get tired of his musicianship! Thank you Alex!

Of my many compositions are works for young audiences. This was in part due to the “ECCO Tells the Tale” concerts with the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra featuring local authors and readers. Two of these works were recorded and released with limited distribution due to copyright. Therefore the CD was not sent to streaming services. The publisher of John Coy’s fabulous book “Night Driving” was the stick-in-the-mud. But just a few weeks ago I said myself “why not release Andy Shafer’s book ‘The Fantastic Journey of Pieter Bruegel’ as a new release?” Andy was smart to keep the copyright. I listened to the recording and was really impressed by the quality of the performance. Reading the names of the performers I realized why. Bob Carr narrated the book masterfully. Unfortunately he is no longer with us as are some of the musicians listed below. I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with everyone. I hope you have time and interest to have a listen.

A recital by flutist Tim Lane

Yesterday I received a few copies of the re-release of my composition Four Moods, Opus 50, recorded some years ago by Philadelphia clarinetist extraordinaire John Russo and former colleague Dr. Donald Patterson, an extraordinary pianist in his own right. Skyline Studios helped transferring audio from old 15” tapes and LPs for this CD release. I have placed a small sample for your listening pleasure (I hope) above. The other composers are Hoffmeister and Mendelssohn, not too bad a company!
