Catch us live! We sit down with Nurse Mai Xiong Yang and Dr. Lynne Ogawa from Ramsey County, Minnesota Public Health about how we can protect ourselves from TB, COVID-19, and the flu. A very culturally relevant conversation about our Hmong community. Episode made possible because of our partner 3HMONGTV- Twin Cities Hmong Television.

Learning my native language is more than just remembering words, articulating them, and writing them - it’s about reclaiming my identity, honoring my parents, and keeping our culture alive. Every word carries the weight of so many Hmong generations who fought to tell their stories.

This was an act of self love - a gift to myself, my community, and the next generations after me.

Don’t let your language fade. Speak it, learn it, pass it on. Your history is worth it.

YOU are worth it.

October is National Substance Abuse Prevention Month—a time to come together, to honor those we've lost, to celebrate those in recovery, and to shine a light on the darkness that substance abuse brings into so many lives. It's not just about preventing substance use or reducing harm. It’s about the silent battles fought every day by individuals and families who live through the storm of addiction.

This was the first time I opened up about my own journey—about being a "love addict" or a codependent, and the weight of trying to save someone I loved from the toxic cycle of alcohol and substance use. It’s a type of heartache you can’t put into words, watching someone drown and not knowing if your help is lifting them up or pulling them under. So many of us know that feeling, that deep ache of wanting to save someone but not knowing how, or even if you can.

But the truth is, it’s never too late to reach out for help. It’s never too late to heal. And in that journey, we often have to face the hardest truth of all: that we, too, need saving. We get tangled up in what’s ours to carry and what’s not. And that untangling hurts. It’s messy. But it’s also where we find our strength. It’s where we begin to heal, and in doing so, we honor the love we carry for those still struggling, and for ourselves.

Let this month be a reminder that no matter where you are on this journey—whether you’re in recovery, supporting someone who is, or still searching for answers—you are not alone. We are all in this together, and there is always hope. Always.

HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT!!! 🎉📽️

This is a big project I’ve been working on for the past several months! From researching to planning, contracting, developing, branding, producing, digital marketing, and beyond, it has taken a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and sleepless nights to build something from the ground up. And to do it all through the complex bureaucratic system of a county government institution was also an extra skill I had to learn along the way!

But this project means everything to me! 😭🙏🏽

My entire career has been in government case management and county social work. Over the past 13 years, I’ve seen and experienced significant disparities affecting low-income, non-English-speaking community members from racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse backgrounds.

Not knowing about resources means not being able to access them!

I believe it’s the role of the government and other institutions to create a more inclusive and equitable way to engage the larger community and truly meet people where they are. Language barriers SHOULD NOT prevent anyone from getting the help they need.

The Cultural Media program aims to deliver information through effective media platforms in multiple languages directly to these underserved communities. To reduce the gaps and disparities between the government and its community members, we must explore innovative communication methods.

Access to knowledge and news about government services, programs, and resources can make a huge difference in helping all parts of our community thrive!

***Largest thanks to Ramsey County's Communication and Public Relations team who helped support me in graphics, website, social media, and strategic planning while building this project. The vision came from the Director Rose Lindsay who has been working in Cultural Media for over 20 years. With the full support of Ramsey County, this program was made possible. Also largest thanks to Mitch Lee from 3HMONGTV- Twin Cities Hmong Television who has been a vital partner in launching this project!

We're excited to announce that Ramsey County is partnering up with 3HmongTV to pilot a cultural media program in Hmong, reflecting the diverse population we serve. Nyob Zoo Ramsey County is aimed at making county news and resources more accessible to our diverse community. The first episode will be Oct 2.
