From the town of Eaton: This past week, Xcel customers in Eaton experienced several prolonged electrical outages. These outages, according to Xcel, were due to a variety of factors, including a contractor hitting a line and secondary problems caused by the initial outage. They continue to look into the cause of these outages.

The Town understands the frustration caused by unexpected power outages to our residents and businesses and the need for more reliable and consistent electrical service.

While Xcel works to repair and replace some of its old infrastructure as part of its Northern Colorado Area Plan (NCAP), residents can learn about tools and resources to best prepare for an outage and track the status of an outage if it happens again.

From the weld County Sheriff’s office (6/7/24):

They’re B-A-C-K…Scammers.

What are they up to this time?

Eight phone scam cases have been reported to WCSO since May 30th. The scammer calls and impersonates a sheriff’s office employee. Sometimes it’s an actual employee, other times it is a fictitious employee. The scammer tells the victim that they have missed court or jury duty and that they need to pay money via gift cards or cashier’s check to avoid being arrested.

Remember these tips, and spread the word:
• Law enforcement will not call and threaten you with an arrest if you do not pay a debt.
• Don't always trust your caller identification.
• Scammers in Weld County have been known to "spoof" the sheriff's office phone number to make their calls appear legitimate-they are not.
• Hanging up on the caller immediately and contacting the sheriff’s office to verify if the call is legitimate is a great way to save yourself from getting scammed.
• If you receive a call from someone impersonating an employee from the sheriff's office and they are pressuring you for your personal information, or to give them money don't feel pressured to make the decision! This is a fear tactic.
• Another tactic is to pressure you with short timelines to make decisions, so you don't have time to think or get resources to assist you-don’t fall for it.
• If a caller is asking you to make transactions that seem confusing or are not straight forward for payment-they are not legitimate, and the call is not from any law enforcement agency because we do not operate in this manner.

Law enforcement will not call and ask you for your personal information such as your social security number, or for payment over the phone in ANY of the following ways:
• Payment through gift cards
• Payment through prepaid cards
• Payment through money transfer applications like Cash App, Zell, Paypal, or Venmo
• Payment through a wiring of funds via Western Union or any bank
• Payment through a QR code or any kind of kiosk

Keep these tips in mind if you receive calls like this and reach out to us at (970) 350-9600 for non-emergencies or dial 9-1-1.

From the Eaton Police Dept.:

We all love our furry friends here in Eaton 🐕... but you know what we don't love? Dog p**p... And do you know what we love even less? Owners who don't pick up after their dogs 😤

🚱 Water Shut-Off Notice Due to Water Line Break in East Eaton Community 🚱

Water will be turned off on Friday, March 29, 2024 due to a water line break beginning at 9:00 a.m. and lasting approximately 6 hours. Crews will be on-site to repair the leak, and water needs to be shut off to a portion of the East Eaton Community.

The properties impacted are between E 4th St. to E 5th St. and from Wall St. through Clark St. (See the attached map)

Leading up to the shutoff, water in this area is still safe to drink. During the shutoff, conserve water by filling water bottles for drinking and pots for cooking.

When the water comes back on, you may see some discoloration in your water. The water is safe to drink, but you may prefer to run the tap for 60 seconds to clear out any sediment.

If you have any issues with your water following the shutoff, please contact Town Hall at 970-454-3338 with questions. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Dale Edward Hinz
Dale Edward Hinz, age 81, of Ault, CO passed away Mon., Mar. 4, 2024. He was born Dec. 19, 1942 in Manning, IA.
Dale attended Manning schools and loved football. As a young boy and teenager, Dale enjoyed the huge farm his grandfather had and growing up in the farming community. He loved to go to the cattle sale auctions in Omaha either with his grandfather or Uncle Ed.
His family moved to Denver, CO and Dale joined the U.S. Marine Corp. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA – he was with the 12th Marine Corps.
He married Shirley Ann Sorensen and they moved to Southern California where Dale was hired by the San Gabriel Police Department. Dale also attended Pasadena City College, Department of Engineering and Technology, graduating from the Police Academy in Pasadena, CA. He received Apprenticeship Council Training with the State of California Department of Industrial Relations. He received Advanced Officer Training and Commission of Peace Officer Standards and Training with the State of California Department of Justice.
Law enforcement was Dale’s special “niche” and he loved every minute of the profession. He received countless awards from the department and the community as well. Today, at his home, a hall wall is lined with pictures and awards and still there are drawers full of awards received during his law career in Southern California. Dale was the Juvenile Officer and a Training Officer with the San Gabriel PD and as the Juvenile Officer he had the opportunity to show the kids of the community that even though he was a police officer, he could care about their problems and go that extra mile to help whenever a young person was in trouble.
Dale was a police officer that believed he never needed the “bells and whistles” as he called them – usually referring to the gold braiding, or gold stars on the shoulder of the shirt needed by others. Dale commented that “it isn’t the badge or name plate that makes a good officer”.
During those early years in Southern California his family planned some special trips/outings – some happened and some didn’t because he could be called back to the station within hours or minutes. But whenever a trip was planned and it happened, the trips to the ocean were very special – the ocean was about 40 miles from home, but how he enjoyed that beautiful blue of the Pacific Ocean, as always, it was breath taking. And many trips to the Sequoia and Redwood forests in Northern California, and usually the family would try and stay a few days – they never got tired of those magnificent huge trees. One special trip was north of San Francisco, along the coast and through the Humboldt National Forest, the stunning beauty of the Douglas Fire trees is something one never forgets.
In June 1971, a son, Andrew Christian Hinz was born.
However, Dale was seriously injured “In the Line of Duty”. He retired from the San Gabriel Police Department and he and his family moved to Colorado.
Years after his retirement, he found another way to connect with the young kids of the community by teaching middle school students about wood, tools, and safety.
Dale is survived by his wife, Shirley; a son, Andy; a daughter-in-law, Teresa; three grandchildren, Kylie, Alex, and Katie; many friends, including four adoptive families in Southern California who called Dale “our boy” – all were a special part of Dale’s life.
A funeral service for Dale will be held Tues., March 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 950 43rd Ave., in Greeley. Following the service will be a burial at 1:00 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, County Road 29 1/2, Nunn. Then join the family at the Ault Fire Station, west Hwy. 14, in Ault, for refreshments and a light meal.
