I am having way too much fun with this software.
Got an email this morning. This is why I continue to do what I do: "Phyllis - My husband and I watched everything last night, and we are so pleased! There is video of my husband’s father who died in the 1960s before his 4th son was born, so your work is a treasure for the Cox family. Just had to let you know and thank you again for your good work! Take care…~Diane"
One more. Loving this software.
Offering a new photo-colorizing service. The original is from around 1912. What do you think?
Ordinarily I do not repair tapes that have mold. However, today I acquiesced and decided to tackle one. Apparently the customer was desperate and had tried everywhere. No one else would take on the job. So I put my mask on (I still keep them on hand) and got out my trusty fine screwdriver set, and went to work. In addition to the moldy tape (which I trimmed off), there was a problem with the reel lock in the cassette shell. (Being a pack rat pays off sometimes. I still have a stock of unused VHS tapes here in the studio.) I put the original tape in a new shell, and voila! Another precious memory saved.
What will you do when your VCR no longer works and you can't find a new one? Don't wait. Have Marsh Video Digital Transfers convert your VHS (or other tape formats) to digital. Make sure sound is on. (Love "Don't spit on the cake.")
We are now offering with all film transfers, free USB drives (i.e., thumb drives). Prices for digitizing films begin at 20¢ per foot). Call Marsh Video Digital Transfers for more information or send us a DM.
If you want your old films digitized AND still have a projector, it would be helpful for you to review them first before bringing them to us. It is an opportunity to label and sort them, making it a breeze for Marsh Video to have them in the correct order and title each reel. I am currently working on some films that the customer had reviewed, numbered and labeled. Helps the editing process. (If you don't have a projector, we have options for that. Give us a call at 410-822-9010 or send a DM to Marsh Video Digital Transfers for more information.)😊
Photo from 1918 digitized by Marsh Video. Three sisters. What a keepsake for the family! (Although we are Marsh Video, we also digitize photos, slides and negatives. Give us a call at 410-822-9010 or send us a DM for more information.)
A new customer brought me some old negatives to digitize into positive images. She also brought me something I had never seen before. A tintype from the 1800s. Pretty cool. I had never seen one in person before.

One of the fun aspects of doing media transfers is learning new things. A current customer has left me quite a few negatives to convert to positives, none of which are "normal" sizes. What appear to be 35mm negatives are actually the 828 format. Same film, but no sprocket holes. Very interesting history.
828 is a film format for still photography. Kodak introduced it in 1935, only a year after 135 film. 828 film was introduced with the Kodak Bantam, a consumer-level camera.
PSA for the week: Although we still transfer tapes, etc. to DVD/CD, Marsh Video strongly urges people to consider converting their analog material to USB. Flash drives are significantly more durable than discs. Think about everything that can go wrong with a disc. From becoming easily scratched, to accidents causing the disc to snap, destroying the accessibility completely. Few new computers even have a disc drawer, but all new televisions have USB ports. Just something to consider.
The weather forecast looks pretty dismal this weekend. It's a good time to gather up those old movies, slides, videotapes, etc. and take them to Marsh Video Digital Transfers to be digitized this week. All work is performed in our Easton, Maryland studio.
OK FB detectives. Does anyone have any idea what this is? (Whatever it was, it sure wouldn't fly today.)
If you are having Marsh Video (or any other company) scan and transfer your photos to digital, please take some time and save yourself some money by culling them before bringing them to us. Unless a photo is totally blank, we will scan it. (I'm working on a project now with over two thousand photos to be scanned and there are so many that I would have eliminated if they had been mine. Tip: Keep the photo of the Grand Canyon with your grandmom in the foreground. Cull out the photo of just the Grand Canyon. There are too many pictures online of the Grand Canyon that are much better than anything your Instamatic got in 1965. Unless, of course there is a UFO in sky.
Memories...the perfect gift. Get those videos, old films, slides, negatives and prints transferred to digital (disc, USB, etc.). All work is done in our Easton studio. Why take the chance of mailing away? Give us a call at 410-822-9010 or send us an email or private message for more information. Orders must be received before 11/18 to be ready before Christmas.
Don't wait until the last minute. Christmas Eve is only two months away. Give the perfect gift. Memories. Orders must be received before November 18 to be ready for Christmas giving. Call Marsh Video at 410-822-9010 or send us a pm for pricing and more information.
I think I prefer the black and white versions of some of these, but overall, these are pretty impressive.
To give you a better idea of reality back in the day, we want to show you some works of Sebastien de Oliveira. He is an illustrator and a photographer who colorizes old photos, giving them more life.
You don't have to dig out the old projector and sit in the attic to enjoy your old home movies. Call Marsh Video at 410-822-90 or send them a pm for pricing on digitizing your memories. Orders received by 11/18 will be ready in time for Christmas.
My customer wanted this little Abbott and Costello short film digitized because it evoked such great memories. She remembers watching it with her family and laughing their heads off.
Don't settle for the turkey neck. Let Marsh Video provide you with the perfect holiday gift. Digital transfer orders received by November 18 will be ready for pickup in time for Christmas. Today someone brought me her wedding videotape from 1987. Sadly, she hadn't been able to watch it for years because the VCR decided to eat it. She brought it to me hoping I could repair it and convert to DVD. I took the tape apart and was able to fix it. Although part of the tape has been permanently damaged, 99% of the video is just fine. I'm pretty sure I will have a happy customer.☺️
FALL SPECIAL! From now until November 18, get a free USB drive (up to 32GB) with any transfer order. You must mention this post to receive the special.
Save precious moments like these to a digital format. Don't let those photos and slides continue to deteriorate in the closet (basement, attic, etc.). Give us a call at 410-822-9010 or send us a pm.
Thanks, Melinda for posting this on your FB profile page. I'm so glad I was able to "fix" your video.
Marsh Video Digital Transfers is no longer accepting credit cards. However, we are accepting payments through Zelle.
Just wrapped up digitizing seven hours of old 8mm and Super 8mm film from the 1960s. The quality was typical--some really nice film, some just OK, and some pretty rough. This footage shows some of the cleanup after the destruction of Ocean City, Maryland from the Nor'easter of 1962.
Heat getting you down? Stay cool inside and start organizing those films, slides, and tapes. Give Marsh Video a call or private message for more information.

The vast majority of film we digitize here is 8mm and Super 8mm. Take eleven minutes and watch this short documentary highlighting 68mm film. Absolutely amazing seeing such great film of Queen Victoria.
“We live in an environment where there are moving images constantly around us. But in 1897, this was startling and new and completely revolutionary. It was a...

I love getting 8mm film from local folks. Here is a clip of manninose clams (AKA soft shell clams) being sorted c.1968.
Videotaping was the prominent way to record in the nineties but this clip was shot on 8mm film. This is from an Easton High School field hockey game. Does anyone recognize anybody?
Working on a customer's home movies and came across this gem. Recognize anyone? (Customer has opted for no sound, but you can also choose music or the sound of a projector running at no extra charge.)
We are in the middle of editing this client's 8mm film from 1964, which will be a Christmas present for her mom. The film hasn't been watched in many years. I have finished digitizing it, but now the editing begins. Unlike the big online companies, we will edit and trim your movies, color correct, and add music if you wish. Because this project is pretty large, it will take me a little while to finish editing, but it will definitely be ready before Christmas. Here is a little clip from the edited production the client has given me permission to share.
Why mail away? Orders received before December 1 are guaranteed delivery before Christmas. Get those old movies to Marsh Video to guarantee you'll have the best present to give to your loved ones. We transfer videotapes, slides, negative, prints and films to digital here in our Easton studio.
This customer's films are definitely the oldest films I have digitized yet. Here is a clip showing the New York World's Fair which opened April 30, 1939 and closed on October 27, 1940. Fascinating stuff. (Think about everything that happened during that time period.)
Preserving memories like these are what we are all about at Marsh Video. We can digitize your films to USB, hard drive, DVD and/or the "cloud". The perfect gift. Don't wait until the films have deteriorated to the point where they can't be saved. Call Marsh Video at 410-822-9010 or send us a private message for more information.
A short clip from a Super 8mm film transfer I am working on. Federalsburg, Maryland in 1974. Recognize anyone?
Some local scenes from a client's 8mm film I am working on. Saints Peter and Paul School is easily recognizable. Does anyone recognize the other locations on this short clip? (Hint: Royal Farms on Route 50.)
It will be 60 years this weekend since the destructive Ash Wednesday Nor'Easter. This little video includes customer film from Ocean City, Maryland right after the 1962 Ash Wednesday Nor'easter. Also included are some family photos from Rehoboth Beach and Indian River Inlet. The storm stuck around three days, resulting in devastating destruction. For more information, here is a good source. https://www.capegazette.com/node/23907
Is it me, or does this look like the most boring kiddie ride ever? I'm surprised there aren't a few kids asleep. Does anyone remember ever riding this attraction at Hershey Park? (Short clip from a film conversion I'm working on right now.)
Many of these young ladies are married with their own children. What a wonderful memory! Transfer those old videotapes ASAP. They are not like fine wine. They don't get better with age, they just deteriorate and get moldy. Give us a call at 410-822-9010 for more information on digitizing your old tapes, films, slides, prints, and negatives.
Currently working on some beautifully preserved 16mm film. All the label on the reel says is "Eastern Shore 1953-1954." Any natives know if this is the old Tolchester Amusement Park?
Every EHS Graduation video from 1995-2019 can now be ordered from Marsh Video in digital format. Give Marsh Video a call at 410-822-9010 for more information. ( Here's a fun and crazy clip from 2000. )
Marsh Video lets you choose what soundtrack you want for your old movies, e.g. projector sound, music or silence. For a small additional charge, you can record a narration for your film in the comfort of your home and let Marsh Video synchronize it to your movie. What a great way to preserve memories for future generations! (Even if we did not do the original digital film conversion, this is something we offer to the general public.) Send us a private message on FB or call us at 410-822-9010 for more information.
My late husband Case Marsh was always the film guy in our business. I learned the craft and am continuing the tradition. He would have found this sound film I digitized from the Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum quite interesting. (Make sure your sound is turned on since this is from a Super 8mm sound film.)
This is a short excerpt from a recent 16mm film transfer. At Marsh Video, there is no charge for adding music we select or "projector sound". . If you want to provide your own music, there is an additional charge. Many customers just want to keep their movies silent. We can digitize your 8mm, Super 8mm and/or 16mm film and copy to disc, USB drive or an external hard drive. Give us a call at 410-822-9010 for more information.
