Thank you to all of our partners and followers that make it possible for us to continue to help this very worthwhile program and our hard working Sheriff's department!

Recently Tidewater Times publisher Anne Farwell and co-publisher John Farwell generously donated $1,000 to the Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education (DARE) program for the coming school year. Each school year our DARE deputies teach every 5th grader in both the public and private schools in Talbot County. DARE teach students to make safe and healthy decisions, as well as the risks kids face today -alcohol and drugs, teen su***de, social media safety and va**ng. Nationally this program is taught to over 2,500,000 students. "We are so grateful to the Farwell family for their generosity and the others in our community who support our drug education efforts. It is only through partnering with our neighbors that we can continue this important work.", stated Sheriff Gamble

CBMM to acquire historic Crab Claw properties

ST. MICHAELS, Md., April 27, 2023 – The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is pleased to announce its intent to acquire two contiguous properties to its waterfront campus, including the current home of the Crab Claw Restaurant. Under the terms of the transaction, the restaurant will remain open for business throughout the 2023 season under its current ownership.

“This anticipated purchase marks an exciting new step in CBMM’s ongoing efforts to enhance our guests’ experience as part of our on-going Master Plan campus upgrades,” said CBMM President & CEO Kristen Greenaway. “We highly value our role as a community partner, and we’re delighted to be able to keep the properties in the St. Michaels’ family and serve as stewards of these historic properties moving forward.

“We believe that CBMM is the best possible owner for this longtime staple of our community, and we thank Crab Claw owner Tracey Jones Wass and her family for entrusting it to us.”

Adding the properties to CBMM’s campus is a natural fit, both in terms of their neighboring physical locations and shared history. The Crab Claw Restaurant opened in 1965, the same year CBMM did, and the two have stood side by side as staples of St. Michaels for decades.

“Generations growing up in St. Michaels have worked at the Crab Claw as their first job, learning customer service and an appreciation for the classic seafood dishes of a Maryland crab house,” said CBMM’s Chief Historian Pete Lesher. “But the property’s roots go back even further, with the first pier in that location showing up on an atlas from 1877 and the town’s steamboat wharf, including a one-story building with a cupola, standing on the site by the 1890s.

“The restaurant itself, an outgrowth of the Eastern Shore Clam Company, opened almost in tandem with CBMM, and we’re very excited to be able to write the next chapter in this iconic property’s long history.”

CBMM will now begin the planning process for future use of the properties, which have such significance to the past, present, and future of the St. Michaels waterfront.

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is a non-profit educational organization that preserves and explores the history, environment, and culture of the entire Chesapeake Bay region, and makes this resource accessible to all.

Every aspect of fulfilling this mission is driven by CBMM’s values of relevance, authenticity, and stewardship, along with a commitment to providing engaging guest experiences and transformative educational programming, all while serving as a vital community partner. Nominations now accepted for Talbot County’s Community Impact Awards

The Talbot County Economic Development Commission is now accepting nominations for its 2022-2023 Community Impact Awards.

Winners will be announced at the Talbot County Business Appreciation Summit to be held on Wednesday, May 3, at 8:00 a.m. at the Tidewater Inn in Easton.

The Community Impact Awards recognize outstanding businesses, nonprofits, community projects, and individuals who have made a significant impact in Talbot County.

The Summit is hosted each year by the Talbot County Department of Economic Development and Tourism in partnership with the Talbot County Economic Development Commission.

“Your nominations will help recognize Talbot County’s leaders and change agents over this past year,” says Talbot County Economic Development and Tourism Director Cassandra Vanhooser. “Our businesses and the people that make them work are award-worthy, and we’re grateful to recognize so many of them through this event and in the nomination process.”

Last year’s winners included Aphena Pharma Solutions, the Avalon Foundation, the Chesapeake Multicultural Resource Center, and Shore United Bank. Delmarva Community Services President and CEO Santo Grande took home the individual award.

“We want to recognize the businesses and individuals in Talbot County who have made a significant impact on the community in 2022-2023,” says Vanhooser. “Each year, the EDC honors those businesses and individuals who have made a positive impact on the Talbot County economy. I’m looking forward to seeing the impressive list of winners from this year’s event.”

Nominations for the 2023-2023 awards will be accepted until Thursday, February 24 using an online submission form.

The Talbot County Department of Economic Development and Tourism’s mission is to enhance and promote a business-friendly environment for current and prospective enterprises and to advocate for policies that support and strengthen the economic vitality of Talbot County.
