Loosely based on her own summers in Oxford, Cathy wanted to capture the waterman’s town of the 1970s since it is an era not thoroughly written about yet. In her view, the 1970s was the tipping point when the working watermen’s town began its transformation into a popular weekend retreat.

What makes PIC unique is that it is an organization powered by volunteers who directly engage with members. It’s a great way for volunteers to make meaningful connections with older residents in the community while providing essential services to someone in need.

I can remember the Doug Hanks Real Estate office growing up. It was only two doors down from my house. Doug and my mother would talk quite often over our fence about our shared family history, and sometimes I would listen in. Just maybe those stories nestled deep within me and made me a lover of local history.

The chapter’s formation is due to the dedicated peace advocacy of two local Vietnam-era veterans, Bruce Butler (Navy) and Ben Mauro (Army), both residents of Easton. They, along with other core members, have worked to bring the organization to the Eastern Shore successfully.

The National Veterans for Peace (VFP) has announced the chartering of its newest chapter, Easton VFP Chapter 185. This chapter, officially recognized in May 2025, marks a significant expansion of t…

Our Story

In 1979, Louise Hawkins started Attraction magazine, “the Good News Magazine” of Maryland’s Mid-Shore. She handled all of the sales, editorial and delivery on her own. She was a well-known fixture in the community and had a ready smile for everyone. Richard Slaughter became partners with Louise in 1997, continued to work with her for several years until she retired and then purchased Attraction in 2002. Richard worked as Publisher until his death in 2017 when his wife Harriett took over ownership for the remainder of the year. On January 1, 2018, Richard’s daughter, Allison Rogers, became the owner of Attraction magazine.
