BLITHE SPIRIT centers on Charles Condomine, a novelist who, along with his second wife Ruth, hosts a séance conducted by Madame Arcati, a quirky medium. The séance unexpectedly summons the spirit of Charles’s first wife, Elvira, who disrupts his current marriage. The couple’s friends, Dr. Bradman and his wife, also witness the chaos, while Edith, the maid, adds to the humor. The play explores themes of love, jealousy, and the supernatural with sharp wit and clever dialogue.

Every summer, gardeners across the Shore wonder, as she was sure was true, does it really rain more on the “mainland” than here on the Eastern Shore? Seems like, to those scrambling to get water to desperately thirsty veggies, that there’s always more rain “over there.”

Is it really weird to pray for a hurricane? My mother used to. Frustrated gardener that she was, she was positive that somehow, some way, those on the Western Shore were hogging all the rain and sh…

“I’m realizing this ritual was built-in without me consciously knowing it. It wasn’t until my parents lived in Prague when I was in college, that I became acquainted with loose-leaf teas. When we visited my mom’s friend Doris in Salzburg, Austria, we always frequented a tea shop that sold loose-leaf tea. It was fascinating how she sold the tea loose from ancient wooden drawers and put it in a brown paper bag for me. That planted the seed for me.”

Thursday, July 21. Dad had breakfast in bed and in the middle of the morning got dressed and came downstairs and had a wonderful day, spending most of his time on the porch. All day folks were stopping by to see him, Mrs. Cox, Aunt Susie and many others. Fran stopped by on his way home from the boatyard. I did mother’s laundry but didn’t get to stay long because Dale was still house bound with his ear infection.

“This is a special year to be commodore of this sailing organization,” exclaims Commodore Elizabeth Principe. “The sport of sailing has changed little over the years. This organization allows local sailors to enjoy competitive sport on the water, improve sailing and tactical skills, enjoy the breeze, sunshine and the water rushing past the bow. On occasion, nature surprises us with dolphins, sea turtles and birds working a school of fish. ESSA pulls this together and couples it with camaraderie and fellowship. Sailors make lifelong friends and learn from each other.”

On June 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. in Cambridge, the Eastern Shore Sailing Association (ESSA) celebrates a half century of enhancing the leisure time of sailing enthusiasts all over the Eastern Shore. The…

An important factor was the arrival of rail lines on the Eastern Shore allowing the rapid shipment of oysters almost nationwide. In addition, vacuum canning and commercially made ice were now also available, both of which greatly extended the area to which oysters could be delivered. This started the “great oyster craze” when the demand for local oysters nationwide appeared endless.

Taylor explained that children often enter foster care with only the clothing on their backs, which was his experience as a child. Our Story

In 1979, Louise Hawkins started Attraction magazine, “the Good News Magazine” of Maryland’s Mid-Shore. She handled all of the sales, editorial and delivery on her own. She was a well-known fixture in the community and had a ready smile for everyone. Richard Slaughter became partners with Louise in 1997, continued to work with her for several years until she retired and then purchased Attraction in 2002. Richard worked as Publisher until his death in 2017 when his wife Harriett took over ownership for the remainder of the year. On January 1, 2018, Richard’s daughter, Allison Rogers, became the owner of Attraction magazine.
