Great experience at Milk Bar record bar in Osaka, tucked up on the fourth floor of a building slightly off the beaten track. With just nine seats available in the entire place, it was a one person operation presided over by a talented mixologist, who prepared the drinks and changed the vinyl periodically. When I spotted a José James LP above the bar and mentioned that I was a huge fan, he played that record along with some related works of Bill Withers. The music was clear and warm, but not too loud. The accompanying whiskey was perfect. I am hoping that these type of places can make their way to the United States. . . . . . . . .

I spy Osaka Castle - aka, “Osaka-Jo” - a Sh**un castle built in the 16th century, and the site of an epic summer battle where 150,000 forces successfully overtook some 55,000 castle defenders in a bloody 3 day battle. Now it’s a beautiful tourist attraction . . . . . . . .

Minus the challenging jet lag, I’ve been having a great mini-vacation to Japan. Current location is Osaka, where the nightlife pulses with energy and the depth of entertainment offerings features more restaurants, bars, clubs, and alleyway excursions than you could ever visit in a lifetime. The first photo is of iconic Glico “Running Man” neon sign along the Dotombori River in the Namba entertainment district. . . . . . . . .
