We recently returned from our 3,500-mile Midwest swing. This was one of the most exciting trips I’ve experienced. We had an outline of where we were going to travel, but it was revised on a daily — sometimes hourly — basis. The people we met, the unique stops we made, (thank you ), seeing family (one of whom had a baby when we arrived) and friends — and the good fortune to observe various US cultures in real-time — was fascinating, to say the least.

This last set of images can’t even come close to our experience, but I hope it may inspire others to take advantage of what our great country has to offer.

Now on to planning next year’s road-trip.

Sincerely,

The Road Tripping Warriors

My travels would not be complete without digging into American car culture and Car-casses I found roadside. Instead of boring you with a lot of historical details, you are looking at:

7. Edsel Ford's Grand Children in an MG at their Detroit home. How Ironic!

A little known fact about me is that I’m a cherryaholic. Anything cherry I love. Fresh cherries, dried cherries,Cherry soda, cherry ice cream etc. so when I had the opportunity to visit the Cherry region of Michigan, I jumped at the chance. The experience beat my wild dreams and expectations as we first visited U-pick cherry orchard where we bought 3 lbs of recently picked cherries for $6. Then we went to the appropriately named in , which went way beyond: We were treated to samples of cherry jams, cherry hot sauce, cherry bbq sauce, cherry root beer, cherry wine and various dried cherries. I even made a pit stop at the cherry restrooms.

The day only got better when we took a well deserved break and ate fresh cherry pie that was enhanced by the delicious creamy vanilla ice cream.

To end our cherry extravaganza, found the largest cherry pie pan in the world which baked a cherry pie that weighed 28,350 lbs!

Reluctantly, we left and are making our way to Lansing and Detroit in our cherriot.

In an obscure area of Ohio and plunked in the middle of the farmlands, this building/basket was known as the Longaberger company famous for its picnic baskets and started by JW Longaberger in 1919
One of his sons started a new company in 1973 and built it into a billion dollar business. In the 1990s Dave Longaberger built a new 7 story corporate hq to resemble one of his baskets. This building cost him $32,000,000 to build and after a downtown in revenue and inability to pay his real estate taxes he was forced to sell the building in 2017 for 1.2 million. The building is currently vacant and is still up for sale. Any tisket tasket takers for this basket?

No it’s on to Louisville, but a stop in Cincinnati for some 5 way chili.

While I often speak about the business of live streaming, my side gig includes a passion for consulting with vintage cars. I regularly consult on sets with one of my vintage cars (or others), not just because I own them, but it's also combined with my knowledge of film, photography and video production. This shoot was with clothing designer Alexander Wang and "A" lister Lucy Liu. If your production could use our help, please get in touch.

Necessity precipitates resourcefulness which fuels the mother of invention. During the pandemic, Jake Drake worked with SFJAZZ and used existing content to integrate with new live content. Together they built a subscription based content engine for SF Jazz's membership.

This new revenue stream built revenue during the pandemic and has become a permanent revenue stream going forward. How have you been resourceful to build your business and brand? We'd really like to know!

11/11/2021

There is no doubt that live streaming has democratized our ability to communicate instantaneously and interactively. With the correct gear and knowledge, virtually anyone can make a large impact in their respective industries and career. Jake Drake and I discuss how.
