Celebrating a century of sailing excellence! 🎉⛵️

The Edgartown Yacht Club just wrapped up its 100th Annual Regatta, a testament to the enduring spirit of nautical competition on Martha's Vineyard. From its humble beginnings in 1924 to today's five-day spectacle, this regatta has weathered the Great Depression, World War II, and even a pandemic without missing a beat.

Did you know? The original race used existing harbor buoys, while today's courses feature inflatable markers. Talk about sailing into the future! 🏁

We Remember John F. Kennedy, Jr.

John Jr. enchanted Cape Cod locals and visitors alike as a little boy summering at the Kennedy Compound, and later whenever he visited as an adult. He felt comfortable walking down Main Street, Hyannis, and sometimes even visited the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum personally.

Places to get the Best Lobster Rolls on Martha’s Vineyard

Lobster rolls on Martha’s Vineyard are a must year-round. They are so deeply rooted in New England culture that they aren’t just a summer treat. It is my duty to you, as a year-round resident and chef on the island, to taste different versions and decide which ones are worth your hard-earned money!

This delectable creation has become a culinary legend, and we’ll explore its nuances, from the succulent lobster meat to the perfectly buttered bun. Cold lobster rolls, with chilled lobster meat tossed in mayonnaise and nestled in a warm, toasted bun, offer a refreshing contrast of temperatures and textures, allowing the lobster’s delicate flavors to shine.

In contrast, hot lobster rolls, where the lobster is gently warmed in butter before being placed in a (hopefully) toasted bun, provide a richer, more indulgent experience. They are sure to satisfy even the most discerning seafood lover’s palate.

Rhododendrons are in bloom!

Heritage Museums & Gardens is a 100-acre property in Sandwich that has much to offer visitors,

New England is home to several native rhododendron species like the Rhodora and Rosebay rhododendrons that are found in mountain forests and boggy areas. However, many cultivated hybrid varieties have also been developed for landscaping that produce bigger, showier flower heads in a wider array of colors.

Rhododendron fest is taking place at Heritage Museums & Gardens!

Despite Harsh Conditions and Wavering Markets, Three Female Entrepreneurs Find Freedom and Adventure in Their Careers as Oyster Harvesters.

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod has named Julia Cumes, Artist of the Year for 2024.

History shows that Wellfleet’s sheltered harbor has been ideal for oyster harvesting for centuries. Native populations regularly harvested wild oysters for food. In 1606, French explorer Samuel de Champlain surveyed the area and named it “Port Aux Huitres” or “Oyster Port.” In the late 17th century, shellfishing drove the economies of early European settlements, and by the late 18th century, the Wellfleet oyster was already being overfished as well as severely impacted by naturally occurring disease. An initial community effort in the early 1800s to reseed the harbor’s estuaries launched the town’s ongoing aquaculture efforts. Wellfleet currently oversees close to one hundred shellfish farms, the most of any town in the Commonwealth, and in 2020 the town’s Shellfish Department issued 175 permits to wild harvesters.

Interior designer Donna Elle refreshes a charming 17th-century honeymooner’s cottage in Nantucket’s famous fishing village.

For Donna Elle, interior design is so much more than just bureaus and paint colors. The design veteran, who established herself on Nantucket during the ’70s, has developed a unique approach over the years that is more wholistic, more spiritually nourishing than focusing on just the building blocks of color, texture, and form.

“Design is really about a whole person—how you want to feel when you step inside,” explains Elle. “Your home is an extension of your personal life. It’s where you go to feel comforted and safe, to recharge and perhaps even heal. It needs to feel congruent with your inner journey.”

Elle uses this same wholistic approach, whether working on a new Shingle Style build or a historic renovation on Nantucket, Cape Cod, and beyond. At the outset, she asks her clients how they want to feel when they step inside their homes, and she uses their answers as a litmus test while executing the design.

When she asked Michele and Jeff, owners of a charming, shingled cottage in Sconset, what they envisioned for their historic gem, their request for a timeless, evocative interior became the designer’s starting point.

Talk about bringing the past into the future! This century-old fishing shack on the picturesque Brewster Flats has been given new life with a brilliant renovation by A3 Architects.

While maintaining the charming gambrel roof lines of the original shack, they've added a 3,600 square foot contemporary addition. The expanded space now includes a spacious living room, modern kitchen, and extra bedrooms - transforming it into a wonderful year-round gathering place.

Falmouth: Lessons on Small Space Living from a Submarine Pilot

For up to eight months of the year, they are out at sea. During dives, a team of three aboard the 23-foot-long Alvin, and the rest of his time he spends on its host ship, Atlantis, which is 274 feet from bow to stern.

On some missions, the team of close to 50 doesn’t see land for four weeks at a time. On many journeys, the hours are long and the days blend together. Nonetheless, these seafaring professionals have systems in place that allow them to be productive, keep their sanity, and even enjoy themselves. In fact, the former navy pilot says he thrives in the at-sea environment. “I’ve spent a lot of time out there, and I happen to really enjoy it,” he says.
