EPPD Officer Fired for Fleeing Drunk Driving Accident

A police officer from the Eagle Pass Police Department has been dismissed following an internal investigation that revealed his involvement in a traffic accident while under the influence of alcohol.

The incident occurred in late November, during which the officer, a long-serving patrolman, fled the scene after causing the collision.

Police Chief Federico Garza confirmed the termination, stating that the officer’s actions violated the department’s code of conduct. “Everyone makes mistakes, we are human, but as a citizen, he must face the consequences of his actions,” Garza said.

The officer was arrested at the conclusion of the investigation. Chief Garza emphasized that law enforcement officers are not above the law. “We must hold ourselves to the same standards we apply to any civilian who violates the law,” he noted.

Garza also highlighted that most officers perform their duties with integrity, but when incidents like this occur, “it is necessary to take action to maintain public trust in the department.”
