“The Dakota and Lakota were defeated in battle by the Americans in the 1860s and 1870s, forcing many to move north. Canada allowed them to stay but ignored their title to land.”

We actually had two treaties with the Americans in 1852 & 1868 so no “defeat” but they too were ignored, like the facts.

The apology was met with cheers from the crowd of more than 650 people at the ceremony in Saskatchewan Monday.

Folks around town know already but we wanted to let our out of town listeners know that KIPI's building's got a serious Maori vibe now! Thanks to the annual Red Can art gathering at CRYP and Maori artists Charles and Janine Williams who gifted us this spectacular image on our south side. Some other images from around town too. We unfortunately did not get an interview with them--but they're already legends around here. Kia Ora, mitakuyapi!

Known as Grandmother Water Walker, Anishnaabe elder Josephine Mandamin trekked more than 25,000 kilometres – including around all five Great Lakes – to raise awareness of the need to preserve the sacred, life-giving gift of water.

Her legacy lives on through community water walks and the dedicated Anishinaabe women she mentored, who continue to carry out her work and share her powerful message of environmental conservation.

BREAKING: The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota (US) calls for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza as well as humanitarian aid, and endorses the BDS movement "in solidarity with the indigenous people of Palestine."

"The Tribe recalls with gratitude and love the support from Palestinian organizations and individuals during the Dakota Access Pipeline protests and reiterates its commitment to solidarity and justice."

The movement salutes this meaningful act of solidarity among indigenous peoples who share a history of resisting colonization and struggling to defend their ancestral lands and natural resources.

Our struggles are connected and stronger together.
