Horrifying. Tragic. Heartbreaking.

Those words immediately come to mind following this morning’s news out of Burnsville that a man shot and killed two police officers and a firefighter/paramedic and injured another officer.

When public safety officials choose this career they know it is one of sacrifice — where they’ll be asked to put their lives on the line in service to others. Yet they don their uniforms, kiss their families goodbye, and show up at work ready to protect the people in the communities they serve.

That is what happened this morning. These men showed up to help — and they were shot and killed.

When our brothers and sisters in law enforcement and EMS put on their uniforms for their next shift, I want them to know they have our support and gratitude. We stand by you. We know the sacrifices you make to keep us safe.

We have reached out to Burnsville Police Chief Tanya Schwartz and Burnsville Fire Chief BJ Jungmann to see what they need. We will continue to stand by them and offer our support in the days and weeks ahead.
