It's hard to forget 9-11 for many reasons:
- History has it that this was the day that John the Baptist lost his head
- The passing of the legendary Peter Tosh on this day 34 years ago: gunned down in his home in Kingston, Jamaica... a crushing blow to the future of reggae music.
- The passing of T***s Hibbert a year ago, co-founder of T***s and the Maytals - the James Brown of Reggae
- The violent death of Chile's President Salvador Allende in a coup in 1973
- In 2007, the Russians detonated the world's most powerful non-nuclear bomb - a thermobaric bomb
- In 2011, the "Occupy Wall Street" movement began in Zuccotti Park on this day
- And 20 years ago today, the world watched in disbelief as the Twin Towers came crashing down. To be analytical, the world has never been the same since. We now see it created the world's biggest social, religious, and racial divide in modern times with thousands killed on the US mainland, and the perpetual wars that followed in the Middle East and Afghanisthan. Even Africa was not spared. (By chance, in the wee hours of the morning, I watched the movie - "Worth" with Michael Keaton, a movie about the compensation to the families of victims of the carnage at ground zero.) Our prayers go out to those that have suffered across the world as a result of this man-made disaster. Our hope is that healing can and must happen - in the hearts first, and then the minds of all those who lost loved ones and continue suffering on this day.
- Finally, Happy New Year to all Ethiopians at home and abroad. May you continue to prosper and find ways to live in peace.
Jah bless, always and in all ways.
