I’ve been getting a lot of question lately regarding the correct technique for using the Culture Swabs for sale in my store. I thought I’d share a video of how I prefer and recommend to use them.
I have tried many different ways but this technique gives me the best results without contamination at least 98% of the time. I suggest to roll the swab in the very center of the plate, rolling 3-5 times back and forth, with very slow, small, and deliberate strokes. Important to not cause turbulent air over the dish. I do not advise rolling and swabbing across the entire plate, I never have good success with that technique. Sometimes it can take up to 10days for mycelium to recover and grow from the swab transfer but just be patient. Another way I have had good success is cutting or tearing a price of tissue containing cotton off of the swab and placing it onto the center of the dish, however this method is not as successful as the above mentioned method.
