[Easter Sunday]
We had a lovely family brunch and Lucas and I went on an adventure (to the library).

[hanging in there]
The past few weeks have been *difficult* I kept getting hit by different things health wise and my mental health was hit by all of it too. I didn’t feel like myself in any way but kept fighting it: the illnesses, the pain and the need to rest. Friday night and Saturday morning my body said: nope no more. Fast forward to today; first day feeling at least 60% better, still struggling with fatigue but hey at least I can eat.
I share this because I want to remind you that: rest matters, taking care of yourself isn’t selfish and asking for help is hard but necessary.

[ E X T R A ]
Today was a big day in my career. I was invited to be part of a panel of women and discuss how our lives at work are affected by our conditions. We discussed intersectionality and how we use our powers to be good at what we do. It was a big day for me because it put me in a very vulnerable position but also empowering. I shared my story, struggles and wins and I hope it helped other women.
Because it was a big day I wore my new red tulle ♥️ you know, because I’m EXTRA.

Today I turned 36. And I am a big birthday person so I absolutely love this day. I love getting older because every single day I learn something and give less f**k$ about outside voices. Getting older has helped me to embrace who I really am and being unapologetic about it it’s the biggest perk.

[overdressed]
Imagine waking up every day and having your brain messing with you. You know you need to get stuff done, there’s a deadline looming in and your brain is just saying nope, you’re a loser that can’t get it done.
Imagine this day after day, that’s how living with ADHD feels like. That’s why I get dressed every single day, wear heels inside my home office. Because I need it: the routine, the feeling of getting ready to do my best. Trying hard to fight the intrusive thoughts. That’s me.

We finally did a thing! If there’s anything my kid loves more than TV are 🍎 so today’s plan was a treat for him. He got to pick 14 lbs of apples and he probably ate like 2 during the outing!
We went to and had the best time!

My favorite day of the year because he came into this world and changed mine. J is a selfless, kind, wickedly smart person. He’s the best dad to Cookie, he wakes up early to take Augustus out so I get to sleep an extra 20 min, he’s the lead of my pack of boys.
His birthday is an special day to me because I get to celebrate him extra. I am so lucky to get to do life next to you . I love you the most ❤️

What’s happening with Haitians at the border is messed up.
Call your representatives and ask them what are they going to do. Basic human rights are for everyone! These people are hungry, dehydrated, walking barefoot for days! and should be better, we can’t repeat the horror of the last four years.

Meet Augustus, a floof bernedoodle with lazy habits and crazy zoomies.
He joined the Figs fam last week, we realized that we had a doggie shaped hole in our lives since we lost Lola. We’re getting used to having him around and this is our first puppy in 10 years so, we’re rusty.
Say hello, you’ll see him in my stories and roaming around. He’s pretty sweet too.

It’s 100 degrees in California today but technically summer is finally coming to an end. I adore fall and winter and I’m unusually optimistic about what’s coming next.
My advice? Get your ass on a swing whenever you can. That will help. This was at 🦩

[Forever overdressed]
In the eternal search for that self love and acceptance, I’ve learned (the hard way I might add) that getting dressed is key for my good days.
So I rarely succumbed to the athleisure trend, I tried but those days were the least productive. And during busy or days I know that will be challenging, I choose my favorite outfits because the confidence they give me.
Now I don’t get offended when someone says that I’m overdressed, I do that with intention. The higher the heel, the fluffier the skirt the happier and readier I’ll be.

[Cherry 💣]
It only took me 2 years to take a picture of my body wearing a swimsuit 🩱
Was it okay? No. But I wasn’t ready till today. I love what my body is able to do, the weight I can lift, the miles I can bike but I’m not always in love with the way it looks, so it’s a work in progress. I’m stronger than ever, so that’s a big win in my book.
This was at the amazing and we’re obsessed.

[Breastfeeding]

I don’t have a lot of pictures of me nursing Lucas. It wasn’t this magical experience, it was painful and me not liking it made me feel like a horrible mom. “Why is this so hard? Why isn’t it coming naturally to me?” I became so obsessed with breastfeeding and my PPA got so much worse. I was shamed by a nurse when I said that I wanted to stop, “you’re so lucky to have milk, why don’t you try harder?” That broke me.

I breastfed Lucas for 6 months and built a stash to last for a couple more. We put so much pressure on moms to breastfeed and to love it immensely and immediately forgetting that we’re just learning too.

[Birth Trauma Awareness Week]
CW, trauma.

Lucas’ birth wasn’t at all what I wanted. I was in pain for a long time, I felt alone. My epidural worn off, I pushed for 5 hours straight. They used the vacuum to get him out. Nothing was like I planned. And everyone was telling me “he’s so healthy and big” no one cared about anything else.

I didn’t feel heard when I was exhausted and asked for a c-section because I couldn’t push any longer.
And 6 weeks into motherhood I got a “green light” to have s*x, but nothing else, after a third degree tear and nightmares.
When people asks “why is Lucas an only child?” Because I had postpartum depression and anxiety, because I was hurting and no one listened. Because I was suicidal and had PTSD and nightmares about birthing another child.
And, no one wants to talk about it. So, thanks for starting the conversation.
