We’ve flown internationally 8x this year 😱 with our 2 children (ages 6 and 3) ✈️👧🏼
✍🏼 Save for future planning!
Here are our go-to tips for booking flights with young kids👇🏼
1. Book directly through the airline: So you can choose your seats at the time of booking! 💺 This lessons the risk of not having preferred seats later in the process (and generally speaking is easier to manage flight changes, if needed)
2. Book direct flights when possible & minimize stopovers: This minimizes schedule risk like cancellations and delays. That extra money is well spent on a direct flight, in order to avoid a potential travel day disruption. 👏🏼
3. Schedule flights during times when your children would normally be tired 😴: We’ve found most international flights, especially to Europe, take off in the evening. Which works out really well, as it’s when our kids are tired and more likely to fall asleep for a long period of time (and wake up somewhat rested).
4. Pack your personal bag wisely (snacks, change of clothes, special craft for the day of): This one speaks for itself. When the kids are awake, they will want to stay full and busy.
5. Take advantage of priority boarding for families: Don’t be bashful. If you have young kids, go to the front of the line and board first, so you can get settled.
6. Accomodation 🏨 should be available for check in when you land: This is another situation where spending a few extra dollars can go a LONG way. Nobody wants to have a great flight with kids and then find out that they need to try and keep their tired kids occupied for another 5 hours because the hotel/apartment can’t be checked into. Just book the accommodation for the night before.

Location independence allows us to be where we want for be, when we want to be there. It’s truly the ultimate goal for us. 🙌🏼
For the first six months of this year, we’ll be living, working and educating with @boundlesslife (with a few stops in between).
While we have family members visiting us during our travels, we’re also looking forward to being home again seeing family and friends in the states this summer. For us, this lifestyle is all about balance. And location independence provides that. 🌍✈️🙏🏼

This is a perfect example of our kids learning about the world through travel. We were completely unaware of the Balinese holiday of Nyepi (silent day) and the Ogoh Ogoh tradition until we happened to be in Bali during the events. 🙏🏼
This figure was an “in progress” Ogoh Ogoh being prepared for the festivities and our three year old was able to recognize and identify it. A few days later, she was fortunate to experience the Ogoh Ogoh parade - a highlight for all four of us in Bali! 🇮🇩
Have you heard of this Balinese tradition? ⬇️

This is something we’d never even considered while in the USA 🇺🇸. Apparently, in Bali the geckos enjoy heat so much so that they hide in the toaster oven and if you leave your toaster uncovered you can find a little gecko friend in there with your toast 😝.
And we can easily see this happening because we regularly saw tiny geckos zooming around the walls inside our apartment.🦎
Did you know this?! Please share your story if you have one! ⬇️

This experience is one of the reasons we do what we do. And is a huge benefit in our minds of worldschooling our children. 🌎

Bali is known as the island of a million temples. 🙏🏼 One of the most common rules of the temple is the prohibition of entering for women who are menstruating.
Temple is a place which is full of positive energy and Hindu religion believes that when a woman enters during Menstruation, it creates an imbalance in the energy flow.🩸✨

❌ It’s not parents against children on our flights. Our kids respond better when they understand expectations. And those expectations change based on the time and length of the flight. ⏰✈️
For example, on long haul, night flights we let our kids use their tablets to start (when the lights are on) and then after the dinner service we make sure they know it’s time to use the bathroom, change into pajamas and try to get some rest. It’s all about communication. 🙏🏼Does it always work? Absolutely not, but it’s definitely easier to remind them of our discussion than to just inform them of what we want in the moment and expect them to respond well. 😊

‼️PLEASE SHARE - You can help too! Head over to @socialimpakt and click the link in their bio to donate water to families in Bali who truly need it. Your donation matters! 🙏🏼❤️

I wonder who ate that second strawberry donut? 😂😉 Not shown: we obviously had Selima take that second strawberry donut she just dusted her frosting hands on.
We have lounge access with Capital One Venture X through their priority pass and it’s so worth it with the amount of times we fly. 🙌🏼

And our immune systems are stronger for it!💪🏼😅
This isn’t meant to deter ANYONE from going to Bali. 🇮🇩 We will do it again, but it came with some unexpected challenges that we want to make sure we share.🤒
Also - some people swear by a daily dose of Yakult probiotic drink combined with a colostrum supplement to stay illness free while in Bali! Unfortunately, we didnt learn this until the last week.🤪
