Vermont fall festival season is here, with some of these starting THIS WEEKEND! 🍎🍂 So if a Vermont fall day trip or weekend is on your list, save this one.

From mountain foliage and small-town festivals to c***r, pumpkins, farm animals and apparently cow plop bingo 🐄😂, Vermont really does fall differently.

Once you’ve traveled through tiny mountain villages, past turquoise lakes and straight into the Swiss Alps on trains that make getting around with a toddler feel easy… everything else has a lot to live up to! 😂😍

✈️ And for my New England people: you can fly nonstop from Boston to Zurich in about 7 hours, making Switzerland way more accessible than it might seem.

We traveled Switzerland when our daughter was little, and it remains one of our favorite family trips ❤️

A few things we loved:
🚆 Taking the trains basically everywhere
🏔️ Staying in the Swiss Alps
🥾 Exploring mountain villages
🛝 Finding playgrounds with absolutely ridiculous views
🚠 Riding mountain lifts
🏙️ Exploring Lucerne
🥐 Eating our way through Switzerland
🌊 Spending time around the lakes

But what surprised us most was just how easy Switzerland felt with a little kid. The public transportation was incredible, the towns were walkable, and getting from one completely different landscape to another didn’t require renting a car.

The downside? 💸 Switzerland is EXPENSIVE, But this is still one of those trips we talk about years later and would absolutely do again.

Spain is incredible any time of year… but Spain in the fall just hits different. 🇪🇸🍂

The summer crowds start to thin, the weather is still beautiful in so many parts of the country, and depending on where you go, you might stumble into local fairs, festivals and celebrations that make the trip even more memorable 💃🏻🎉

Some of our favorite memories in Spain have been the completely unplanned ones! Wandering through a feria in Nerja, accidentally finding a waiters race 😂, staying out late in the plazas, eating way too many pintxos…

And coming from New England, there’s another pretty convincing argument:

✈️ Boston to Madrid/Barcelona nonstop in about 7hr 🤯

So no, I’m not telling you to book a spontaneous trip to Spain this fall…

…but I’ll just leave this here 😂🇪🇸

✈️ DIRECT FROM BOSTON SERIES: Iceland 🇮🇸

One of the biggest perks of living in New England? You can fly nonstop from Boston to Iceland in about 5–6 hours! 🙌🏼 It’s honestly wild that somewhere that feels THIS different can be such a short flight away.

We traveled Iceland with our daughter when she was still a baby 🥰 and it remains one of the most incredible trips we’ve taken. Waterfalls, glaciers, black-sand beaches, geothermal areas… it truly feels like you’re on another planet. 🌎

A few of our favorite experiences:
🌊 Chasing waterfalls along the South Coast
🖤 Visiting the black-sand beaches
♨️ Exploring Iceland’s geothermal areas
🧊 Hiking on a glacier
🚗 Road-tripping through some of the craziest scenery we’ve ever seen

My biggest recommendation with kids: don’t try to drive the entire Ring Road unless you have plenty of time. Iceland looks small on a map, but there is SO much to stop and see along the way. Pick a section of the country and actually enjoy it.

For a first family trip, I’d focus on Reykjavík + the South Coast, staying in Reykjavík and Vík so you’re not spending every day driving back and forth.

And Iceland is one of those destinations where the journey really is part of the trip. Rent a car, pack snacks, leave extra time between stops, and pull over when you see something incredible… because you will! 😍😂🇮🇸

From The Big E and Topsfield Fair to Salem in October, Cape Cod without the summer crowds, and a festival dedicated to GARLIC 😂🧄, there’s something here for pretty much every kind of fall weekend.

And yes, I had to include The Big E ☺️ we went to college in Springfield and have been many times! ❤️

You guys loved the New England fall events list, but there were WAY too many good ones to fit into one post… so we’re going STATE BY STATE. 🍁🙌🏼

First up: NEW HAMPSHIRE! ❤️

If you’re trying to plan your fall weekends, these are 10 events happening around NH over the next six weeks that are actually worth putting on your calendar: from the Highland Games in the White Mountains to Deerfield Fair, Pumpkin People, Apple Harvest Day and a festival literally dedicated to PICKLES. 😂🥒

And as someone who lives here, my biggest fall advice: don’t wait for one “perfect” peak foliage weekend. September and October are packed with things to do, and some of the best fall days happen before or after everyone decides it’s officially “peak.” 🍂
