Ostrava by Shelby June

Love the characters of "Lost and Found" and "Wildflowers?" I'm taking you back to the beginning to introduce you to Jakob and Rachel, a young couple who fall in love, get married and build a loving home and family. Follow the childhood of Nava and Malka and the unbreakable bond of twin sisters.

On March 15, 1939, Ostrava, the third largest city in the Czech Republic, is invaded and life is forever changed for the Prinz family.

Love, loss, strength, hope and determination help Nava and Malka survive the unthinkable.

Here is the first part of their journey.

The Dover Public Library will present the annual Local Authors Day on Saturday, November 2, 2024. The event runs from 9 AM to 2 PM, featuring presentations and panel discussions featuring local authors, followed by a Book Marketplace from 2 PM to 3 PM.

I’ll be giving a presentation on “Tools of the Trade”:

Ranging from scraps of paper, index cards and paper notebooks to
powerful (but free or inexpensive) software, this presentation will give you
tips and tricks on pulling together your notes, scraps, and documents,
working them into shape, and getting them out into the world.

I’ll post more information about the event as it becomes available.

I very much enjoyed doing an Author Talk last week at the North Hampton Public Library. Marilynn and I had done author events at the library years ago, when it was in a tiny building on an adjacent lot. The new building is gorgeous, the presentation facility top notch. The Programming & Marketing Librarian, Tori Simpson-Tucker, was a delight to work with—professional, and pleasant.
We had a small crowd, but they curious and attentive. Many of them had lived or traveled to Boston back in the day, so they took great interest in my research about Boston and the T back in the 60’s.
At one point an attendee asked where one might find my book. I pointed to our merch table. Tori chimed in (sotto vocce), “You can get it from the library.” After the event ended, Tori admitted to me that she had not read my book. She had wanted to, but since they added it to the catalog, it has constantly been checked. Music to my ears!

I thoroughly enjoyed playing at The Art Center in Dover last Saturday for the Artist’s Reception.
I first started playing at Rebecca Proctor’s events at the Washington Street Mills Business & Cultural Center in Dover back in 2010. When Rebecca opened The Art Center in the mill building, in 2018, she invited me to play at her events there. So I’m thrilled to be able to carry on the tradition. I’m looking forward to playing at the Artists’ Reception for the Members’ Exhibition in June.

Over a long stretch of years I worked on my novel, All Cars Run to Park Street, in restaurants, pubs, coffee shops and libraries. My ever-patient wife, Marilynn Carter, accompanied on almost all those outings. She did her work, I did mine.
After we published the novel we revisited many of those spots, where I worked on promoting that book and writing the sequel.
I’ve collected a few notes from various pub writing outings.

One of our favorite spots was Outlook Tavern in South Berwick, Maine. We got to know one of the waitresses, Adrienne, who, seeing my computer open visit after visit, had asked what I was working on. I had told her about my novel. Shortly after I published the novel, Marilynn and I visited the tavern...
