The Highland boys' basketball team visited Dodgeville Saturday night in a non-conference game. The Cardinals trailed at halftime, but a strong second half helped them defeat the Dodgers 62-53. The Iowa-Grant Boys' basketball team shot the ball well Thursday night in a home game against Riverdale. The Panthers made thirteen 3-point shots and beat the Chieftains 71-45, and we have some highlights for you.

Most of us know that Dodgeville won the State Championship in basketball in 1964. After they won the championship, a sign was made that read 'Home of 1964 State Champs' and it was mounted on the Dodgeville population sign near the hospital.
The mystery behind the sign is no one knows who made it. What we do know is that a former Dodgeville resident has had the sign ever since and he and his wife returned it back to the school 60 years later. Enjoy the 'sign' story!

The Mineral Point Girls’ basketball team hosted Platteville in a non-conference game Thursday night and unfortunately for the Pointers they fell just short in a hard-fought battle, 51-49. We have highlights for you in an exciting game that came down to the wire!
Jim Myers return to coaching the Barneveld Girls’ basketball team ended in heartbreak as Platteville’s Rianna Dye made a short bank shot as time expired giving the Hillmen a 51-50 hard-fought victory at Barneveld in both team’s first game of the season.

On a crisp 40-degree game time temperature to start in a WIAA State Level 3, 8-Player qualifying game, Highland’s undefeated season ended in a hard-fought match against Owen-Withee, 23-21. The game was played at Forward Field in Stanley-Boyd, a little more than three hour's drive for Highland.
Highland was up 14-0 in the second quarter, but a couple of costly turnovers by the Cardinals allowed Owen-Withee a chance to tie the game, and as time expired to end the first half, the Blackhawks eked out a 32-yard field goal to take a 17-14 halftime lead.
We’ll pick up some highlights in the third quarter. Highland ends their season at 10-1. 11-0 Owen-Withee will play for the state championship next Saturday against 10-1 Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas at Wisconsin Rapids.

The Mineral Point Girls Volleyball team made their first WIAA State appearance at the Resch Center in Green Bay on Thursday, November 7th in a semi-final game against Eau Claire Regis. The Pointers won the first two sets in the match, but Regis won the next three sets in a thrilling five-set battle 25-21, 25-23, 19-25, 17-25, 12-15.

A former Dodgeville man, Charles 'Chuck' Halverson recently had his 100th birthday and he was honored at halftime of the Badgers Homecoming game against Penn State as he is the oldest living letter winner at Wisconsin. The Chronicle was at the game to capture this amazing achievement. Thanks to Chuck's daughter Renee for providing photos from the halftime celebration in Heritage Hall.

74 years after losing his life in the Korean War, and thanks to the tireless effort of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, a Dodgeville, Wisconsin man, Army Corporal Robert Paul Raess was finally identified on March 26th, 2024, and flown home to be properly buried next to his mother and father at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery on September 7th, 2024.
This is a fascinating documentary and worth watching. It took a huge effort from many to bring him home. This is his complete journey as produced and told by Dodgeville Chronicle Photojournalist John Dalton.
