How cool is this? If you don't already be sure to follow the Ford County Historical Society. They share some awesome things! While you are at it give a follow to the Ford County Legacy Center, Boot Hill Museum and the Kansas Heritage Center. They all share so many incredible stories about our area.

This incredible aerial photo was taken on August 30, 1947 when the Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus was in Dodge City. It looks like it was taken facing southwest with the tent set up at what is now Thurow Park.

TODAY IN SWKS HISTORY! August 15, 1872: The Dodge City Town Company completes its formal organization and dubs the town Buffalo City. After being informed that the US Post Office would not allow two towns of the same name to exist within a single state, the name was changed to Dodge City. (The other Buffalo City was founded in Wilson County Kansas in 1867.) Stop by the Dodge City Convention & Visitors Bureau today starting at 11am for a 152nd birthday cupcake!
