The Unseen Stories Behind the Hustle: A Detroit Legacy
Thinking about my buddy, I can’t help but reflect on the plans we made before she up and died on me. She was the one who convinced me to return to Detroit, restart the company, and take another shot at success in a city that had shaped both of us. I agreed—not because I wanted her managing the business alone, but because I didn’t want her to work so hard. But truth be told, hard work was the only way we knew how to live. People often think they know your story, but they don’t see the battle scars, the journeys we navigated in the heart of Detroit.
We wore hats of many firsts here. From San Francisco to New York, we have built a legacy for over 20 years, working with over 50 Fortune 500 brands and managing their marketing, advertising, and public relations. Promotions Unlimited, born in Chicago, found its soul in Detroit from 1988 to 2012. Those were years of relentless hustle, marked by moments of soaring triumph and crushing defeat. The dot-com bubble burst, flattening our investment portfolio overnight, and then 9/11 struck, sending shockwaves through every facet of our lives. At the time, I was in the middle of a move to New York City, gearing up for what I thought would be a new chapter.
But 2008 delivered another blow: our biggest client filed for bankruptcy. We were thrown into the dark days of the Bush administration, from 2001 to 2009, when the economy took a beating and our dreams with it. Yet, through every storm, we fought. Our journey was more than just business—it was survival, a testament to resilience in adversity.
It’s time to tell the story of two women who dared to dream big in a world that constantly tested our limits. Detroit was more than just our battleground; it was where we learned to survive, thrive, and rewrite our destiny against all odds. The scars are real, but so is the legacy we carved out of sweat, tears, and an unyielding belief in each other. (Release date 2025)
