We’ve all heard the term ‘raise the bar” and we usually look at the bar as something to aspire to reach. Society has created a bar for Black women. You must have straight hair, a certain type of body, you gotta carry this bag, wear these clothes, you can’t be 2 dark and you have to be 3 times as smart as your non black counter parts.

I coined it as The Bu****it Bar. The unattainable, unrealistic, ever moving, spirit killing, depression causing, self-hate evoking bu****it bar.

Despite the Bu****it Bar, which is sometimes self-imposed, black women still get it done, we still dominate, we still rise. Let’s talk about it.
