I can’t believe my baby will be here THIS FRIDAY!!! 🥳

I know I haven’t been posting much, but that’s because I have been nesting and prepping for baby River’s arrival ❤️❤️❤️

As some of you already know, my baby was diagnosed with an omphalocele at 13 weeks— which is an abdominal wall defect where some of his organs are growing outside of the body.

Because of this, our baby will require a NICU stay after birth. The time he will spend there is unknown, and completely dependent on how well he does once he is earthside. It might be a couple weeks, or it might be months. (Fingers crossed it won’t be long 🤞)

My husband and I have started a go fund me, to help us during the NICU stay. I was deemed high risk since baby’s diagnosis so I have been unable to work, leaving us a one income household for the duration of my pregnancy. I will be staying 1.5 hours away from home at the NICU with River until he is cleared to come home.

The go fund me will help cover:

✨ Lodging for us during NICU stay
✨Meals for us during NICU stay
✨Parental leave for Michael during NICU stay
✨Financial support for bills, due to loss of my income
✨Special car seat needed for baby River (Jefferson car seat)
✨Additional therapy costs for baby River
✨Medical supplies
✨Gas and transportation to children’s hospital where baby is staying (1.5-2 hours away)
✨Groceries
✨Any unforeseen or unexpected expenses

Hi everyone! As you may know I have a beautiful little boy due in January. His name is River. ❤️

What you don't know is that River was diagnosed with an abdominal wall defect called an Omphalocele. His abdominal organs - bowels, liver, gall bladder, and partial stomach protrude through a defect in the abdominal wall at the base of the umbilical cord. In his case it is considered a "Giant Omphalocele" which carries a higher risk for both him and I.

He will have a lengthy NICU stay and the Pediatric surgeon has decided on what's called the "Paint and Wait" method, which means he won't be able to have the required surgeries until he's around 1 or 2 years old so that there's enough skin to cover the missing area. The biggest concerns at birth are possible heart and lung issues.

I haven’t been able to work through this pregnancy because it's a very high risk pregnancy, and it's going to be a long time before I’m able to go back to work. Our sweet boy will need me more than the average baby.
