We’re in trouble when it feels better to wear a mask outside in MN because of the smoke. My throat hurts this morning. Get involved in climate action. It’s going to take all of us. We can’t put our heads in the sand, complain, deny, throw our hands up, or hope someone else gets us out of this mess.

Another smoke-filled morning. This is not the MN I grew up with. Devastating fires are burning in Canada. This is yet another opportunity (how many do we need?) for us to ask ourselves what’s it going to take to get involved with climate action. I know, I know…. I’m not good at that. I don’t like politics, it’s all a scam, nothing I can do matters, I don’t know how all that works… I get it. But, it’s up to each of us to wake up a little bit, shake off the stagnation just a tish, and google climate action groups and see where we can donate, volunteer, join up with, ask questions, talk with people. This isnt about future generations. This is happening now. This is a summer of hazy skies again that I don’t like for my family now. Today. I invite you to explore getting involved. Taking action. A little or a lot. It’s time. It’s been time. Here are just a few climate orgs to get you started. There are many. It’s not up to them to do our work. It’s up to us.

I ❤️❤️❤️ National Wildlife Refuges where wildlife comes first. 🦅🐻🦌🐦I made it to NC and hiked around Pea Island, Alligator River, and Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuges. I can breathe at these places. 🥰I’m sure the wildlife feel the same way. ☺️ I saw a huge bear on his back legs scratching his back against a tree! 🥹
👉 Like always on NWR’s, its important to pay attention to signs because sensitive areas can be closed for nesting birds or critical habitat, and pets may not be allowed to reduce wildlife disturbance. Leave no Trace principles are important. 🤘Pack out what you pack in. No one needs to clean up after us. 👍 Have fun out there!

Happy 🌎 Day! 💚Beauty is all around us. So are good things happening. ☺️ It can sometimes feel like our actions might be like one of these little drops of water on a small, insignificant leaf no one was noticing along the trail this morning. But, remember that it’s not just our actions but a culture of caring that we’re creating when we do even the smallest of changes. Here are a few things at the top of my mind to live more thoughtfully: Plant a pollinator 🦋garden, plant a tree 🌳 or two, volunteer and/or donate to a wildlife, climate, or environmental group, vote for good people who prioritize the environment (maybe run for office!), reduce meat consumption, conserve water, waste less food, check out a thrift store more often, don’t idle your car, leave no trace, and be a voice for the natural places you love. 💕 Hugs! Earth Day every day. 🌱

Here’s a woman with moxie! 🤛 In Detroit Lakes, MN, Sally Hausken led the effort to save a big chunk of her favorite forest from development. 🌲🌳 Now, 64 acres make up the Sucker Creek Preserve. 💕 Sally is proof that one person can make a difference. 💪 It may be easier to throw our hands up and complain of the wrongs of the world or to just accept our natural places disappearing as something out of our control… but easier doesn’t make us happier. 🌿 🐦 🦌
