A small comment made me feel ashamed about my features. How “Mexican” I looked, I never tied my hair back fully out of embarrassment for appearing “too much” of what I am.
This photoshoot was about breaking that cycle I created/placed myself in. My ancestors were beautiful, I embraced my features and “insecurities” that I thought were real. I’m thankful to now know what I know and that it’s okay to appear too “much” of what I am because I am indigenous,I am Mexican. it’s in my DNA, why change my appearance and hide to suit others. Not anymore though.
