“We are at a pivotal point in history where all of us must speak out and act against any insinuation that drag has an agenda to indoctrinate children—an accusation that blatantly misunderstands LGBTQ experiences and is rooted in homophobia and transphobia.” Love this piece by Angela Engel of The Collective Book Studio! We at BookBar Press and The Bookies Bookstore (and formerly at BookBar) are proud supporters and hosts of Drag Queen Storytime, and will continue to be!

Collective Book Studio founder and publisher Angela Engel urges the book community to stand firm against homophobia and transphobia.

So much to digest in this thoughtful article about how AI will turn the publishing industry upside down. What do YOU think? We'd love to hear!

The latest generation of AI is a game changer, Thad McIlroy writes. And the change won't be incremental, but scary fast. If he's right, then the trade book publishing industry as we know it will soon be obsolete.

Reading fiction doesn't just boost emotional intelligence, concentration, and critical thinking. It also helps prevent memory loss.

What are you reading in honor of ? We hope you’ll add Bite Size: An Anthology of Micro Theatre by Colorado playwrights to your TBR pile!

Bite Size has a special place in our hearts…we published this collection after Denver Center for Performing Arts Off-Center performed the micro plays in BookBar (yep, right in the store!) for a special 3-week run. (Westword even named it the best immersive theatrical performance that year!) Two Bite Size plays feature transgender lead characters, and are especially powerful…

A Pocket Full of Dandelions by Kristen Adele Calhoun
While rebellion thrashes outside, in the library of Denver’s maximum security prison, two women struggle to decide if liberty and justice is indeed for all.

Something to Read at the End of the World by Maureen Biermann
As flood waters rise, a bookseller is surprised by a young patron’s plan for coping with the impending disaster.

Purchase Bite Size at or wherever books are sold. (Preferably an ! 😉)

Happy ! 💜

As some of you may know, we are a small publishing company that is owned and run by women. We know firsthand the power of women in the industry and are committed to uplifting strong female stories.

We also recognize that women's rights are not limited to one group in particular. It is especially important to note that our friends in the LGBTQ+ community are celebrated, supported, and loved this month and every month. It is our duty to uplift the voices that have been historically silenced for far too long. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ 💪🏽

What do middle school and middle age have in common? A lot, as it turns out! The fantastically funny Wendi Aarons shares here about the awkwardness, humor and empowerment you'll find in both.

“I’m so embarrassed that I thought I was a failure at age 30,” Austin comedy writer Wendi Aarons told me over Zoom recently, recalling how she’d let go of her Hollywood writing dreams in her late 20s. What she didn’t realize then was just how much writing she’d do in the decades to come....
