In today's episode, the Mavericks sit down with Rebecca Cole. Ms. Cole is the daughter of an aging parent and a master storyteller. We embark on a profound journey into the heart of elder care, emphasizing the vital role of mindfulness, care, and empathy. As a daughter deeply embedded in the world of senior living and a leader guiding families through this delicate dance, I've witnessed firsthand the transformative power of approaching elder care with an open heart and a listening ear.

Imagine a world where every conversation with your aging parents or siblings is not just a dialogue but a bridge to deeper understanding and connection. This is not a journey for the faint of heart—it demands that we dive deep into the realms of empathy and compassion, setting aside our fears and frustrations to become the beacon of support our loved ones desperately need.

We explore the nuanced art of truly listening—acknowledging that behind every word spoken by our elders lies a lifetime of stories, wisdom, and, occasionally, unspoken needs. This episode invites you to discover the joy and compassion that bloom when we navigate elder care not as a daunting task but as an opportunity to weave stronger family bonds, even as we tackle its inherent challenges together.

Join us as we delve into the importance of family, love, and the invaluable lessons learned through caring for our elders with mindfulness and empathy. Let's transform elder care from a scary, frustrating, and confusing chapter into a shared journey of growth, understanding, and unconditional love.

The Mavericks sit down with Dr. Teri Cassidy of Fitness to Drive which specializes in services for driver safety.

Dr. Terri Cassidy started Health Promotion Partners in 2018 in response to a need in the community. Many hospital-based programs for driver rehabilitation had closed across the state and families were left to make decisions about driving without comprehensive medical and performance-based assessment. Terri’s vision was to create a program where she could offer excellence in driver rehabilitation and expand the scope of services to work with drivers of all ages. The foundation of this vision is the belief that we can influence health throughout the lifespan by helping clients select and engage in meaningful life activities. Driving can be key to accessing those activities. We have driving clinics in Colorado Springs, Westminster, and Fort Collins.

The Mavericks are blessed to sit down with Dr. Christina Vaughan, Physician Lead at UCHealth Anshutz Outpatient Palliative Care Clinic, and Jennifer Desserich, Executive Director, Dignify Dementia.

Dignify Dementia started in 2022, to honor my Ms. Desserich's dad, who was diagnosed with Dementia with Lewy Bodies and Parkinsonism in 2018. Ms. Desserich's and her mother have been the most active part of his caregiving community and we do all that we can to help him to stay safely in our family home. They plan to support him at home for as long as we possibly can, but that carries a great deal of patience and responsibility, which are not always easy to hold on to when you're a care partner.

So join us today to learn more about the support available!
