amongst the hidden things. 🍁

maybe there’s strength
remaining hidden in plain sight
like autumn’s kiss
before a frosty white
starts settling in
for another night.

the girls are enjoying the snow, while I am wishing for more time in my favorite season.. something about the fall neutrals are so comforting. while I am not a “pink girly”, the muted Himalayan Salt color reminds me of this transition from deep warm colors to the rosy glow that comes with fresh snowfall.

at the very least, I have these beautiful memories with our gear to look back on until next time (but it looks good year-round, too.🤎)

today, I turned twenty five years old. E turned eleven months just a few days earlier, and Leia is nearly three. the time has gone by so fast, and things this year certainly look different — but in a good way.

self care, but for the dogs 🤎

you home is supposed to be
a place where you feel calm
a place to rest and rejuvenate
a place where slow living meets spontaneity.

clean, but not a place where it looks like
no one truly lives.

I will never wish away the things
that make my house a home:

the sound of paws pattering down the hall,
water splashes that seem to be everywhere
except the dog bowl,
coats covered in grass and dirt
a memento of that day’s adventures.

when I’m with my dogs,
I feel like I’m home
so why shouldn’t they feel clean too?

we were supposed to go on a trip to Moab this weekend, but mother nature often has other plans —

so, instead of driving in a snow storm,
we stayed home.
we played cards.
we told stories.
we laughed.
we cooked.
we hiked.

but most importantly,
the girls fished.

did they catch anything? no.

but I’m sure they didn’t care to know the difference
between the original plan
and this one.

Her expression evaded description, beyond words I could form. I dug through the archives of my library & instantly found this quote buried in a book by Rupi Kaur:

homeward. 🌊💧🧿

I’ve always felt an odd relationship with where I grew up.

like a tree on the banks: lopsided, with one foot in the water and one on land.
unsure if I am meant to put down roots
or become a piece of driftwood.

this was the first time I’ve been home all year, and during my favorite season. something calling me.

parts of me healed with sun and water,
watching the ducks float
while my brother wanders the shore
in search of rocks.

parts of me opened up with my feet in the tall grass,
hearing the cicadias and fawns creep from their soft slumber in the woodline.

and parts of me realize that these little places on maps that no one may ever see,
can be called home, too.
