St. John’s Wort is undeniably the best herb to support us in the transition to winter! 🌞 🌿✨
This semi-evergreen trophorestorative works wonders on our nervous system, serotonin levels, digestion, and liver function!

❄️ Helping us get through the sluggishness of adjusting to winter and recovering from holiday meals, STJW acts strongly on liver mechanisms and digestive stagnation and inflammation.

☀️ He is also a wonderful remedy (and quite well known for!) depression, anxiety, seasonal affective disorder, and ADHD, amongst multiple other conditions.

I've been working with St. John's Wort, Lemon Balm, and Rhodiola as a capsule for the past two months and have noticed incredible results in the reduction of depressive and pessimistic tendencies. The seasonal shift into winter always gets me down a bit, but this blend has truly helped me see the bright side of things and the beauty in my every day.

Applied topically, STJW is also highly regarded for pain in the joints, muscles, teeth, and any nerve afflictions. He can be infused into oil and applied directly, or made into a balm or cream. You can also extract the plant's medicinal constituents in alcohol to create a liniment, or work with the plant fresh in a poultice. All of these remedies can be applied topically to the painful or afflicted area. Anyone with nerve damage should heavily consider working with this herb.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: Saint John's Wort is a strong hepatic, and thus causes the rapid processing and elimination of pharmaceuticals, often causing them to be ineffective. So, for anyone taking any drugs, particularly life-saving drugs, psychiatric meds, or contraceptives, it is imperative to avoid working with STJW internally. Anyone with rosacea or photosensitivity should avoid this herb as well.

For those of us who can utilize the wondrous benefits of Saint John's Wort, I revere this as the premiere wintertime herb, and an amazing ally in combatting depression and psychological afflictions.

Other herbs I would like to recommend for mental wellbeing and anti-depressive attributes are Lemon Balm and Tulsi
You may also be keen on adding Cayenne or Arnica Montana to your pain balm!

🌿✨ Discover 5 Healing Plants Growing Wild in the South ✨🌿

Nature provides a incredible medicine right in our backyards! 🌍 From pain relief to respiratory support, these five native Southern herbs are here to empower you on your herbal healing journey:

🌵 Prickly Pear: This resilient and widespread treasure offers hydration, antioxidants, and blood sugar support. The pads and fruit are packed with nutrition and amazing for first aid applications - internally and externally!

🍂 Oak: A grounding ally, oak bark is rich in tannins, offering anti-inflammatory and astringent properties, particularly helpful for skin wounds, bleeding, and diarrhea. Remember this bark for wilderness first aid!

🌼 Boneset: A traditional remedy for colds, flu, and fever. This wildflower has been a go-to for immune support and soothing viral aches for centuries.

🌾 Goldenrod: An enchanting sunshiny yellow friend for seasonal allergies, inflammation, and urinary health. But she's not just a pretty flower—this plant is deeply medicinal, nutritive, and even makes a natural dye! Very supportive of pollinators and super abundant, too!

🌟 Hercules’ Club/Prickly Ash: Known as the “toothache tree,” this spiky marvel is a circulatory stimulant, natural pain reliever, and oral ache helper. Its bark has been used extensively to soothe gums, digestive issues, and circulatory complaints.

I'm so unbelievably blessed to have friends that cook and eat together, comfort and help each other when stressed or struggling, and who can teach me how to f**k up a bamboo jungle.

The second pic is Lady's Tresses, the genus Spiranthes, a (new to me) medicinal orchid we found at the bus's home. The tuberous root of certain species have been worked with as an aphrodisiac, and also as a diuretic in cases of urinary retention (ischury) and kidney pain. Native American Embassy also notes that a tincture of the root has been used 'homeopathically' for skin afflictions, painful breasts, and eye complaints - without further specification and no other online mentions of medicinal practice. I believe the species we stumbled across may be cernua. I am deeply curious about this beautiful plant and hope to share more findings soon!
