Did you know I’m obsessed with a cardboard box?

📦🍊🌳

This ain’t just any ordinary old box. To my knowledge, this is the last box of its kind in existence.

Rumor has it that on one fateful day in 1983, the Strawn Citrus packing facility was unexpectedly closed. All the workers were pink-slipped midday and asked to leave. And just like that, all picking, packing and production at the once bustling citrus center completely ceased… never to resume.

The grounds and buildings have been slowly decaying, deconstructed, and defaced in the several decades that followed. All that remains today is a skeletal suggestion of how things used to be.

I found and acquired this box entirely by accident, but considering the amount of time, effort and energy I’ve spent researching and exploring the site where it came from it was always meant to find its final home with me.

I have some special plans for this beauty. 🌞 Stay tuned.

1953 Florida Official Road Map FOR SALE from my private collection of “Old Florida” memorabilia.

This fold-up was issued by the State Road Department of Florida and sold (as evidenced by stamp) at the Gulf Service Station that once stood at the corner of East New York and Alabama.

It features a listing of National and State Parks, Forests, and State Monuments, meanings of Florida Indian names, index of counties, cities and towns, and write-ups (with pictures) on popular attractions.

Measures 25.5” x 29.5” when completely unfolded.

It is in fair to good condition and would be a beautiful piece of local/state history decor once framed. Hoping to send this lovely map to a local collector and lover of Florida history!

1949 Map of Titusville and Brevard County Florida FOR SALE from my private collection of “Old Florida” memorabilia.

This fold-up was issued “compliments of” Strout Realty Agency, Inc. in Titusville (as evidenced by printing on front cover). Map portions include general highway and transportation, and a street map of the city of Titusville.

It features a write-up on Titusville and surrounding areas detailing location, tourism, climate, economy, agriculture, industry, etc. from the time period.

Measures 22” x 17.5” when completely unfolded.

It is in fair to good condition (with a couple highlights/notes from the original owner) and would be a beautiful piece of local/state history decor once framed. Hoping to send this lovely map to a local collector and lover of Florida history!

1950 Florida Tourguide Vacation Map FOR SALE from my private collection of “Old Florida” memorabilia.

This fold-up was issued by Gulf and sold (I believe) at the Gulf Service Station that once stood at the corner of East New York and Alabama.

It features smaller map sections specific to the panhandle, St. Petersburg area, and Cuba, as well as a generalized map of the southeastern United States.

Measures 40” x 18” when completely unfolded.

It is in good condition and would be a beautiful piece of local/state history decor once framed. Hoping to send this lovely map to a local collector and lover of Florida history!

No wonder we grow up afraid of snakes… 🐍

The boy in this children’s book gets bit by a garden snake and his vision goes red and he experiences excruciating pain and can hardly walk. 😂😂😂 (He describes the snake on the previous page and Julia’s commentary about his dramatic reaction was priceless. 😅👌)

I’ve been snake-bit (by nonvenomous species) more times than I can count. I promise you it is nothing like this. 😉

He gets bit by a werewolf later in the story and somehow that tag from the garden snake was more painful. ☠️

I posted this last week, took it down (lol) and am re-posting because it’s such a beautiful and history-rich part of our local landscape and I really wanted to share. The gates were recently re-painted and the overgrowth has been cleared quite a bit, and while I am more drawn (personally) to the aesthetic pictured here, it’s absolutely worth noting that the changes were made to restore and preserve the structures (and probably also to discourage trespassers). Y’all know me… I find tremendous beauty in decay BUT I’m also a huge advocate for historic preservation. I hope these gorgeous gates continue to stand tall and strong for the enjoyment of all for many years to come.

Today was SO great. 🥰

Julia LOVES horses so I organized a 2 hour trail ride for her at Cactus Jack’s Trail Rides in Ocala.

She rode Mr. Crunchy (the grump), Dorothy rode Baxter (Ron Burgundy’s dog), I rode Dude (Dudey the butt munching p**p sniffer), and Mom rode River (the wandering snack-machine). LOL… the staff told us stories about the horses, their personalities, their nicknames and how they got them, and we definitely experienced their individuality.

My favorite part of the day was watching my girl gently and confidently interact with her majestic steed and enjoy every last drop of her experience. She turns 8 next weekend, and this is her big present from me. I am so pleased that it was everything she dreamt it would be.

Huge thanks to the incredible guides and the lovely ladies in our lives that shared the experience with us!

These are some favorites from yesterday’s event: Wild Florida Art Under the Hammock at Highland Park Fish Camp here in beautiful DeLand. 🖤 I am blessed to know some truly talented folks, including who took these gorgeous B&W photos, and Ray Johnson who captured these first two snaps of me and my daughter.

Thank you SO much to everyone that came out. Your love and support mean more than I can express with words. I had a lot of help before, during, and after the show from my wonderful friends and family, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t give special thanks to my MVPs and for going above and beyond, and to my girl for hosting this magical event. My cup runneth over, y’all. 🌞 ###
