Upon the outdoor basketball court at Ruben Chavira Elementary, a BMX (bicycle motocross) rider speeds toward a quarter-pipe ramp and launches himself 30 feet into the air as children cheer him on all around. An announcer, Robert Castillo, introduces each rider and their tricks to the students.

When the value of Animal Services was put to vote, debate sparked at City Council meeting. Councilperson J.P. Sanchez used emergency water and wastewater projects as rationale to deny funding for Animal Services improvements. “I’m not saying that this is unnecessary, but this is more of a luxury, this is an animal shelter, we need to concentrate on the important issues, which is our water and wastewater at this particular time,” said Sanchez. Proposed policy changes to the class ranking system and graduation requirements for Del Rio High School students were presented to the SFDRCISD Board of Trustees during the February 24, 2025 School Board Meeting. The proposed changes included basing class rank and valedictorian and salutatorian status on the four core classes rather than the grade point average of all courses completed by the students. The recommendations came from a district committee composed of high school principals and counselors and is a policy that has been adopted by other high schools across the state...

Connect Del Rio launched on March 2, 2024 as an online digital news platform with the goal of growing into something bigger that could better serve the needs of the Del Rio, TX community.

At the beginning we announced multiple features that have become a daily tool locals use. Features like Food Truck Central, Find a Professional, and Discover Del Rio! We also shared our ultimate goal for 2024 was to create Del Rio's FIRST Advanced Video Based Morning News Show. With that in mind, along side our journalist, Alondra Sanchez, we began testing the waters by creating news segments and sharing them with the public. These segments became something locals looked forward to often!

Earlier this morning at approximately 10:15am on Saturday 3/1/25, a major collision occurred on N. Bedell Ave. Two cars were involved, a shiny brand-new red Mustang and a black Chevy compact SUV. Both vehicles had severe damage to the front, suggesting that they were traveling in opposite directions before one vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and caused a head-on collision.

The entire front end of the Mustang was compacted. The Mustang came to a hard stop on the street, facing south. The Chevy had its entire front left wheel and axel ripped out from under its carriage. The impact appeared to have launched the Chevy up and over the curb, through a yield sign, and then chain-link fence. It narrowly missed a row of oak trees before coming to a stop several yards into the old Irene C. Cardwell Elementary School playground property...

On February 27th, 2025, at approximately 10:05 P.M. The Del Rio Police Department responded to Wal-Mart located at 2410 Dodson Ave. for a shoplifter in the store. While responding, police were informed the suspect left the business running towards the Murphy gas pumps. The male suspect was described as having long hair, wearing a black shirt over dark jeans and black shoes.
