Episode 241 is a variation on one of our favorite tropes: The Trunk Murder. Culled from the historic pages of True Detective Magazine and the Oregon Daily Journal, this story takes place in the Pacific Northwest, when a couple of shady transients try to pull a long con on a wealthy, recently widowed rancher. We are sorry to report that the financial prospects for True Crime Historian have forced us to suspend production of new episodes for an indefinite period. However, we wish to continue to allow access to the episodes languishing in the True Crime Historian Vault, and it seems that our Patreon account is the best place to do that. Around 300 of our 450 episodes are now available, and we will be dusting off and re-releasing the remaining episodes as time and money allow.

Buck Ruxton’s Double Jigsaw Puzzle Murder

Episode 159 takes us on our first excursion into Scotland with the story of a physician (some accounts call him a gynecologist) accused of dismembering his wife and the nanny of their children, scattering their parts in a deep bowl-like valley near the town of Moffat, so named as it was known as a good spot for hiding stolen cattle.

-“Stalking The Tiger Girl” tells of a Los Angeles detective’s pursuit of a sassy, auburn-haired hold-up artist who suddenly finds repentance after her arrest. Adapted from True Detective Mysteries, November 1929.

"Murder Of The Blonde Butterfly - The Saga Of Ruth Freed’s Itchy Trigger Finger" tells of the unsolved murder of a professional party girl in post-Prohibition Chicago. Well, technically it’s unsolved because no one was ever tried and convicted, but I think it’s pretty clear who the culprit is.

Episode 447 retains a lot of the discrepancies in the reporting of the story, so don’t be alarmed at conflicting versions of the same incidents. I can’t say for certain that they ever got some of the names right, but nothing could be more wrong in so many ways than the theatrical adaptation of the case that takes place at the denouement.
