Abandoned Hotel Belvédère was an iconic Swiss hotel on the edge of the Rhone Glacier. It was built in 1882 by young hotelier Josef Seiler in one of the hairpin bends of the Furka Pass, one of the snowiest regions in Switzerland. The panoramic location attracted a pampered clientele who sometimes stayed for weeks during the summers.

Head of a princess probably Meritaten

This yellow-brown quartzite head of a princess is probably Meritaten, the eldest daughter of Akhenaten. It was excavated by the Deutsche Orient-Gesellschaft in 1912 in a studio of the chief sculptor Thutmose at Tell el-Amarna.

The head is from a composite statue where different pieces were sculpted separately and joined together. The skull is elongated and the features include protruding eyes, thick lips, and large ears. The style belongs to the middle period between the early Amarna style with its exaggerated deformation and the later return to convention.

Roman bird-shaped glass vessels were used as perfume bottles. The liquid was sealed inside the vessels and the tip of the tail had to be broken to remove the perfume. The one in the bottom picture (dated to the 1st century CE) is still intact and filled with the scented content

Sarcophagus of Pa-nehem-isis

The sarcophagus of the priest Pa-nehem-isis [Pnehmêse] is a remarkable example from the Ptolemaic Period, with its large face and its profusion of inscriptions and images, covering the whole surface. The figures have been carved in the hard stone with great precision.

The deceased is wearing the tripartite wig and a broad collar. No other part of the mummy"s body has been indicated.
