FYI: Decatur Public Schools #61 will have an E-LEARNING Day tomorrow, Tuesday, 1/21/25.

DPS will have an eLearning Day Tuesday, January 21st day due to frigid and cold temperatures. NO Extended Day programming. Decisions regarding athletics will be determined tomorrow.

PreK-8th grade students should refer to grade level eLearning packets or choice boards for Day 2, these were sent home earlier this school year. No technology is needed! They are also available on our website dps61.org/elearning.

High school students need to log in to each google classroom for instructions and/or assignments.

District administrators will continue to monitor the weather. Parents, for up to date information, rely on official DPS communication channels or trusted media partners. You can also check our website or social media for additional updates and information. Everyone, stay safe and warm.

Snow will overspread central and southeast IL late tonight into Friday morning, and taper west to east Friday afternoon. Expect reduced visibilities and slick roadways during the morning commute. Leave extra time in the morning for travel, and take it slow to stay safe. Southeast of roughly the IL River, we're forecasting 2-4 inches of snow with areas south of roughly I-70 standing a 30-40% chance for seeing more than 4 inches.

Round 2! Is it... is it Spring yet?

Snow will develop tonight, as early as 9 pm west of I-55, and continue as late as midnight Friday east of I-57. Two to 4 inches are expected from I-55 eastward, with 1 to 2 inches expected to the west. Expect winter driving conditions with slick roadways, especially on lesser traveled or untreated roads. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from around Jacksonville to Bloomington eastward.

❗️ NO garbage pickup today in Decatur - January 6, 2025

We have been notified that all Decatur haulers are postponing waste collection today, January 6, 2025 due to inclement weather and the landfill being closed. Most haulers are operating on holiday schedule and picking up one day later.

This includes: GFL, Jeremy Doolin Disposal, Doolin Disposal, & Murrell's Disposal

Waste Management is postponing both Monday and Tuesday collection this week (Jan. 6 & Jan. 7) and will collect these days next week. There will be NO overage charge for all trash on this delayed schedule. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday routes will still be picked up and delayed by one day this week.

UPDATE - 1/07/25: The Snow Emergency will be lifted at 3:00 p.m.

❗️ Emergency Snow Routes & No-Parking ❗️

The City of Decatur has declared a snow emergency, which triggers no parking on emergency snow routes. This will go into effect at 10:00 p.m. tonight, January 4. Residents have six (6) hours - until 4:00 a.m. Sunday, January 5 - to remove vehicles from the emergency snow routes, which are designated by red and white street signs.

The parking, leaving, or standing of any vehicle is prohibited on designated Emergency Snow Routes. Violators of snow emergency regulations are subject to fines and towing.
