Recently moved out of the house I'd been in for the last 2 years and I've been slowly setting the studio back up at the new spot. Thankfully I can mount my big screen at the new place so no more searching for super tall TV stands! Progress.

It was time to retire the MAudio MTrack 8 today. While it was a solid low budget 5.1 (up to 7.1 technically) interface, it's inability to go beyond 7.1 or recieve/ send ADAT optical signals or SPDIF and lack of dedicated speaker monitoring software or clock syncing were the main justifications for the upgrade to the Focusrite 18i20 3rd gen.

Voicemeeter Potato and Banana were both solid workarounds for the lack of software monitoring control with the MTrack 8 and allowed me to control my monitor levels virtually which is nice because the MTrack's monitor control nob only works for a dedicated stereo monitor pair not the 8 channels of multi-outputs that are used for surround sound monitoring. Now I can adjust my monitor level on the 18i20 with a physical nob for any "mix configuration" I set up in the Focusrite Control App and toggle through those configurations with a physical button on the interface or inside the software that I can also get for my Ipad.

Really excited to try out the pre amps on the 18i20 too because man... MAudio... I never used the MTrack for recording because of its bonk preamps and would bypass it by recording on my Mix Pre 6 instead. Thanks for making such a versatile budget friendly interface! Now yall just need to make a budget friendly interface with 12 outputs for 7.1.4 and break the 10 physical output max production cycle!

Sometimes you just need to change up your setup to get the creative train rolling. Switched back to the more open room, got some desk clamp monitor stands to clear up some desk space, ditched my DIY wooden speaker stands (still using one of them to raise up the big TV though, and the old stands are now the start of a DIY cat tree πŸ˜…) and I'm really enjoying using the music stand for my S1.

Recently started scoring an Ari Aster style horror film where the temp music is Collin Stetson's score for Hereditary. Bought a plastic JSax for the project (side note: I've never played a woodwind instrument in my life so these are my first "t***s" πŸ˜…) along with some rub mallets. So far the rub mallets on my roommate's ride cymbal and the Jsax are covering a lot of ground on their own!

Still need to record my aquaphone, bow some of my guitars, play around with the didgeridoos, scrape some metal and record my voice and put everything through some effects chains but these two instruments sound awesome on their own without any processing!

Getting set up to start recording a score for a pretty awesome horror short and I'm pulling out all the stops. I'm gonna bow so many things and break in the new super rub mallets and the new Picasso acoustic guitar bow while I'm at it!

As always the didgeridoos will be involved and so will my homemade Aquaphone, time to get spooky!

"Dear Sister" is one of the short films I've been working on the last 2 weeks and it premiered last night. So far it's been pretty well recieved! Shout out to the team at Cupcake Rapture Studios for making a solid project to do post sound for! There were definitely some challenges with post sound considering I got brought in so close to the finish line while simultaneously juggling other projects but I managed to meet the deadline! Check it out and I hope you enjoy!

It's time for my second Didgeridoo field recording experiment. This time instead of recording traffic in mono with one Didgeridoo, I'm going to record our trash pickup in stereo with 2 Didgeridoos 😎

As some of you may already know, I love analytics and decided to take a look at all of the videos I've worked on that have been hosted on YouTube.

I did a tallie of my "total view count" (since some of the videos were hosted on the production companies or producers channels and they didn't feature my channel on the videos so I couldn't track the analytics) and I was shocked to find out from just my channel (~10k views) and a handful of other videos I've worked on, the view count came out to around 885,000 views!

This is just YouTube views too so between YT, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Vimeo, festival screenings and streaming platforms like Amazon I can confidently say that my work and content has been "heard" over 1 million times and I think that is a pretty cool milestone πŸ₯³
