EXCLUSIVE: Big Deal Films and A24’s ‘Dreaming Whilst Black,’ one of the buzziest British comedies of 2023, has been greenlit for a second season by the BBC and Showtime.

Adjani Salmon‘s comedy was picked up by A24 and then Showtime last year, garnering strong ratings and critical acclaim. The season will premiere in the U.S. on the Paramount+ with Showtime streaming tile, on linear on Paramount+ with Showtime and in the UK on BBC Three and iPlayer. 'The Bear' was always coming back for Season Three—even if it took over four months to make the official announcement. While there's no release date just yet, you can bet on Season Three turning up the dial even higher than before. "Our crew is amazing—like very amazing," creator Christopher Storer told Esquire this past summer. Ava DuVernay makes history this year as the first African American woman in the Venice Film Festival’s 80-year existence to have a film compete for the Golden Lion.

At the Venice Film Festival press conference for Ava DuVernay’s new film “Origin,” the director revealed that she has previously been told not to apply to the festival because “you won’t get in.”

“This is something that we are often told: you cannot play international film festivals, no one will come,” DuVernay said. “And this year, something happened that hadn’t happened in eight decades before: an African American woman in competition. So now that’s a door open that I trust and hope the festival will keep open.”

“Origin,” starring Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor and Jon Bernthal, “chronicles the remarkable life and work of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Isabel Wilkerson as she investigates the genesis of injustice and uncovers a hidden truth that affects us all,” according to the film’s official synopsis.
