Due to icy back roads and slick conditions throughout the district, Clarkston Community Schools will be closed today, January 23, 2025.

01/20/2025

Due to dangerously cold temperatures, Clarkston Community Schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 21, and Wednesday, January 22. This decision was not taken lightly. While we would like to have your children in our schools learning, we must consider their safety. After consulting with a meteorologist and conferring with several other superintendents, it was determined that it was too cold for students to wait at the bus stop or walk to school. We appreciate your understanding and I hope that giving you advanced notice about both days helps your family to plan for childcare if needed. Please stay safe and warm.

*PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AS SOME SCHOOLS ARE OPEN AND SOME ARE CLOSED*

The following schools have power and WILL HAVE SCHOOL TODAY, August 29, 2024: the Early Childhood Center, Pine K**b Elementary, North Sashabaw Elementary, Sashabaw Middle School, Clarkston Junior High, and Clarkston High School.

Unfortunately, power is not fully restored at the following buildings, and SCHOOL IS CANCELED TODAY, August 29, 2024: Andersonville Elementary, Bailey Lake Elementary, Clarkston Elementary, Independence Elementary, Springfield Plains Elementary, and Renaissance High School.

We are aware that there are still widespread power outages in our community and we understand if your child’s school is open but they are unable to attend. There will be no negative consequences if your child is absent.

08/28/2024

We are hopeful that all the buildings estimated for restoration tonight are back up and running and that we can get the majority of our students back to school tomorrow. However, we cannot be certain as these dates and times are estimates. We will continue to evaluate our situation and suggest that ALL district families prepare a backup plan for child care.

At this time, none of our buildings have had power restored. Our technology team and our buildings and maintenance crew have been working to ensure that our internet, phones, and infrastructure are all operational once the power is back on.

We have also been in close contact with DTE as they work diligently to restore power to thousands throughout Michigan. Here are the latest estimates from DTE:

Tonight, August 28 @ 11:00 p.m.: Andersonville Elementary, Bailey Lake Elementary, and Independence Elementary.

Tomorrow, August 29 - Time TBD: Clarkston High School.

Friday, August 30 @ 11:00 p.m.: Early Childhood Center, Clarkston Elementary, Springfield Plains Elementary, Renaissance High School, and the Administration Building.

Currently have power: Pine K**b Elementary, North Sashabaw Elementary, Sashabaw Middle School, and Clarkston Junior High.

To keep families updated, we will send an email and post information to our website and social media around 11:00 p.m. this evening.

Then, just like today, a final decision will be made at 5:00 a.m. tomorrow. That decision will be shared on all earlier mentioned channels as well as phone calls and text messages.

Thank you again for your continued support and understanding.

08/28/2024

Due to widespread power outages across the CCS community, including a majority of our buildings, school is canceled today, August 28, 2024. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide more information regarding afternoon activities.

08/28/2024

With the majority of our district buildings without power tonight, we may need to cancel school for the entire district tomorrow, Wednesday, August 28.

We are suggesting ALL families begin working on a backup plan for childcare. We will monitor the situation throughout the night and early morning hours.

Our intent is to make our final determination at 5:00 a.m.

Multiple schools/buildings in the district — Early Childhood Center, Andersonville Elementary, Bailey Lake Elementary, Clarkston Elementary, Independence Elementary, Springfield Plains Elementary, Clarkston High School, Renaissance High School, and the Administration Building —do not have power due to this evening's storms.

We are working with DTE representatives to determine a restoration time. However, over 400,000 customers are currently without power, and they are unable to give any specifics.

If any of the buildings are closed tomorrow, information will be posted on our website, our social media channels, and the local news stations. Notifications will also be sent directly to parents via email, phone, and text message.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
