My dear, today, like every year, I'm here. I remember when we were young and loved each other so much. We couldn't live our love freely, but we gave each other all the happiness we could. I want you to know that today, love is becoming freer, and the world is changing. I wish you were here to see it. We are celebrating another year of Pride for you and for all those who are no longer with us because of hate.

We must do better. No one should they can’t be their authentic self and end their life due to bullying. This is unacceptable, we must do better.

DCDD is saddened by the passing of Ethan Henderson, a 15-year-old from Arkansas who recently took his own life after months of homophobic bullying and abuse. With the recent rise in hateful rhetoric and harassment targeting LGBTQ+ youths throughout the U.S., we can and must do better to stand up for their right to live as their authentic selves.

To LGBTQ+ youths who are struggling: you are not alone. Even if it doesn’t feel like it in your immediate vicinity, you are part of a vibrant and diverse community, and you are valid and beautiful just as you are. Although DCDD is an 18+ organization, anyone is welcome to watch us perform or follow us on social media, and we would love to have you join us once you reach adulthood.

Finally, if you are reading this and having thoughts of su***de and/or self-harm, we encourage you to reach out to the 988 National Su***de and Crisis Hotline, The Trevor Project, or Trans Lifeline.

Happy Hanukkah ~ Hanukkah 2022 begins on the evening of Sunday, December 18, and ends on the evening of Monday, December 26. Often called the Festival of Lights, the holiday is celebrated with the lighting of the menorah, traditional foods, games, and gifts.

The events that inspired the Hanukkah holiday occurred during a particularly turbulent phase of Jewish history. Around 200 B.C., Judea—also known as the Land of Israel—came under the control of Antiochus III, the Seleucid king of Syria, who allowed the Jews who lived there to continue practicing their religion. His son, Antiochus IV Epiphanes, proved less benevolent: Ancient sources recount that he outlawed the Jewish religion and ordered the Jews to worship Greek gods. In 168 B.C., his soldiers descended upon Jerusalem, massacring thousands of people and desecrating the city’s holy Second Temple by erecting an altar to Zeus and sacrificing pigs within its sacred walls.

LGBTQ+ HER/HIStory Project Needs your help
Our friends at the LGBTQ History/Archives in Chicago are seeking our help on a Dayton Native drag performer called Miss Tilley. Miss Tilley was a well-known drag performer in Dayton and Chicago after moving there in the early 60’s and performed there throughout the 60’s and 70’s. Miss Tilley was born in Dayton, we believe in 1925, and lived here until 1960 before moving to Chicago. We believe he performed locally at “Swing Bar” which was located at 311 W. Third Street in Dayton and at Clubs in Cincinnati before his move.
We believe he attended Roosevelt High School, maybe 1940-1943 and worked for Reynolds and Reynolds and for the Greene and Brook Securities Company. I believing his first name to be Lawrence or Larry. We have found evidence he was arrested in a raid of a drag show where he was in the audience here in Dayton. We believe this arrest and harassment was the catalyst for his move to Chicago which was known as a much more accepting town for Gay people in the 50’s-60’s. Among his connections in Dayton were Russell Hackworth; George Searles (or deSearles); and Alex Moses. (Searles later got some popularity in Dayton as a magician and psychic.)
Does anyone have any knowledge of Miss Tilly? Please DM me any information you may have. We certainly want to highlight this individual in our local LGBTQ+ Archives and share the information with our friends at the archives in Chicago. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

This could be fun, lets check it out.

30 years ago on Sunday, April 25th, 1993, an estimated 1 million people convened in the nation’s capital for the March on Washington for Gay, Le***an, and Bi Equal Rights and Liberation. Today, The American LGBTQ+ Museum honors the activists, organizers, artists, and LGBTQ+ demonstrators who, in the face of widespread discrimination and targeted hate crimes, took action and rallied behind a platform demanding rights that continue to be denied and threatened 30 years later. We celebrate the legacy and spirit of the ‘93 March on Washington, and pay tribute to this momentous event in the movement for LGBTQ+ liberation.
