Here’s a little information… two years ago, I heard of a “new” or different method of canning. Steam canning. After I stopped gasping and clutching my pearls, I threw those dang pearls in the drawer and tried it….OMG. I have 21 years of farm living, and twice that in canning…and this revolutionized my canning. I have a fused back, carpel tunnel in both wrists, and several other ailments that made WB canning difficult for me to do. Lifting those heavy pans full of water was agonizing for me, and usually not possible. So, my point here is, don’t be afraid to try something new. Steam canning uses 2 inches of water as opposed to gallons of water. The benefit is easy for older people…yes, I am one. Down side is it’s only for things 45 minute WB processing time or less. It’s sooo very easy. I learned this from a dear friend here, Norma Dillard, who also is a farmer and has years of experience…so, you CAN teach old dogs, new tricks….lol. Have a blessed day! Found this Hoosier cabinet in my grandmothers storage room. It had layers of paint, green, white, etc. I refinished it back to its original. Original hardware, green enamel pull out work area and roll top.

I don’t know wot this is and am trying g to not think wot it could be, it was a lot worse but got the main of it up with pink stuff and metal scourer but now not budging! Any ideas can I use neat bleach but that will stain the flooring won’t it?? Advice please

So I need advice on cutting down on dirt on my floor. I live out in the country. (Like literally have one neighbor) and my floors are all hard wood. I have two dogs that go in and out of the yard and I swear I sweep like 20 times a day. And I need to sweep again 5 minutes later. I’ve only been living here for about a month and a half and it’s already driving me nuts. Picture of the dogs for tax.

Avoid the problems!

Do not build kitchen cabinets and/or islands on top of floating floor systems (engineered wood, laminate, Vinyl Plank).

This is a practice seen all too often in new construction and renovation work, and one that causes no end of problems, hold backs, expensive repairs.

Restricting a floating floor’s natural requirement to shrink and expand laterally due to changes in Relative Humidity and / or temperature, can stress plank connection points in the floor system causing squeaks, creaks, locking mechanism failure, separation, splits, buckling and more.

Some manufacturers of floating floors state in their installation guidelines NOT to build cabinetry on top of the floor system, and some do not. Just because they don’t, doesn’t give a green light to go ahead and do it. If there is no warning against this practice, it means the installation instructions are not thorough enough.

NFCA Floor Covering Reference Manual states:

Individual planks or tiles shall not be fixed directly to the substrate. Installation shall facilitate natural, lateral movement throughout the floating floor system. Door jambs shall be undercut. Cabinetry shall not be built resting on the floating floor system. Wall moldings and transition strips shall not impede floor covering expansion and contraction and shall conceal plank/tile edges as required.

Manufacturers should be clear about what is and is not covered under warranty, what is recommended for best installation results, salespeople should advise their builder and/or homeowner customers accordingly and professional installers should know better.

If in doubt stop the installation, do some more research, and ask the manufacturer / distributor for guidance in writing before you install.

simmer pots are a natural and easy way to fill your space with the fragrances of the season, using simple ingredients you likely already have in your pantry.

these are my favorite fall simmer pot recipes, the orange and bay leaf one is my favorite! 🧡

easy guide:
for all recipes, put ingredients in a pot, cover with water, bring to a boil, then lower to a simmer. add more water as needed to keep the pot from drying out.

1. classic cinnamon-apple simmer pot

ingredients:

• 1 apple, sliced
• 2-3 cinnamon sticks
• 1 teaspoon ground cloves (or a few whole cloves)
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• water to cover

2. spiced orange & bay leaf simmer pot

ingredients:

• 1 orange, sliced
• 2-3 bay leaves
• 1 teaspoon nutmeg
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon
• water to cover

3. pumpkin spice simmer pot

ingredients:

• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
• 1 apple, quartered
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• water to cover

4. cranberry-orange harvest simmer pot

ingredients:

• ½ cup fresh or dried cranberries
• 1 orange, sliced
• 2-3 cinnamon sticks
• 1 tablespoon cloves
• water to cover

5. spiced pear & rosemary simmer pot

ingredients:

• 1 pear, sliced
• 2-3 sprigs fresh rosemary
• 1 cinnamon stick
• 1 teaspoon ground cloves
• water to cover

Officially moved into my 124 year old house last week.
Besides the owners having way too many cats and not taking care of the odor, this planter type thing, made of bricks was obviously used as a p*e spot for the cats. I want to replace it but not sure with what, or just have open flooring there. It's right by the front door...suggestions please. TIA

”I saw a post the other day by a lady who said she always grabs vintage casserole dishes when she sees them at hobby lobby or yard sales or from the Tedooo app and uses them when she brings a meal to someone! She said often they are cheaper than disposable ones and the family can either keep for themselves or pass on to someone else who needs a meal in the future! So in the spirit of reduce, reuse, renew & recycle... I thought this was a neat idea worth sharing!”

I have an issue with severe hard core limescale on black sinks in a high end establishment.
Against my better judgement I went on recommendation of using viaksl and the once black sink looks a complete mess.

Please please any help or recommendations would greatly appreciated. Howevercan I strongly advise never use product on black sink.

Hi I've got this throw I gave my daughter (on a day where I wasn't thinking straight) to make a den with on the patch of grass in front of my house in the summer with her friends. I have washed and tumble dried it multiple times, I've used a lint roller on it, bobble remover tool it's just taking chunks of material off it along with grass. I've tried brushing it. Please can someone suggest something they've used that removed grass and seeds on this sort of material please. It was fairly new like 6 months old. It's a double throw so picking bits off with arthritic hands and after having surgery on my right hand is really last resort. Thanks.
