🐾Precious Pet
Newlyweds Jamie and Ashley Caffes enjoy spending time with their beloved five-year-old Doberman, Knox, taking him on long walks. “He’s a high energy, spazzy but lovable dog who is scared of plastic bags,” says Ashley.
Don’t be fooled by this giant – he might look scary, but he really wouldn’t hurt a fly. He’s also great with the neighbors’ kids, who love this precious pet.

🏡Meet Your Neighbors: Say Hello to Newlyweds Jamie and Ashley Caffes
In every neighborhood, there are stories waiting to be told, and the tale of Jamie and Ashley Caffes is one that resonates with love, community, and the excitement of new beginnings.
“We met at a bar in Federal Hill on Jamie’s Grandmother’s birthday,” says Ashley, who recalls the moment fondly. The bar, which was originally called Stalking Horse, is now known as Public House. “My friend pushed me into Jamie on purpose, he did a double take and then asked me to dance.” Little did they know that their fateful connection would lead to marriage.
As their relationship deepened, Jamie and Ashley found themselves embarking on a new chapter together, one that would lead them to the tranquil surroundings of Davidsonville, moving into their current residence in Fox Hall and officially closing on their home on December 29, 2023.
Now settled into Davidsonville, Jamie and Ashley are embracing the joys of married life and building a life together rooted in love, laughter, and shared experiences. Ashley works as an Operations Manager for The Joint Chiropractic Annapolis location and the Waugh Chapel Towne Centre location.
As for Jamie, he works as a Senior Estimator for his family's business, a commercial glass company called Caffes-Steele Window and Door. Jamie works alongside his two brothers and also excels in safety training at the company. He attended James Madison University.
So, the next time you see Jamie and Ashley Caffes strolling through Fox Hall or out at Boatyard Bar and Grill, be sure to say hello and welcome them to the neighborhood. After all, their story is a reminder that in every community, there are neighbors waiting to become friends and friends waiting to become family.

✈️Travel Tales--Iceland II: Another Roadside Waterfall
Driving around in northern Iceland is a head-turning exercise in trying to take in first this volcanic feature, then that unnamed waterfall. The countryside is pretty isolated in the north, where the largest town, Akureyri, has a population of less than 19,000 which, amazingly, makes it the second largest city in Iceland after Reykjavik.
We continued on our way and spotted a gravel spur and small parking lot at the head of a path leading down to a valley. A short walk down the path took us to a precipice overlooking a river with an oxbow bend around a steep basaltic hillside. Here are Alice and I defying death, about 15 meters above the valley floor on a somewhat precarious lookout point. We look a lot cheerier than we felt – the path was loose dirt and rock, slipperier than we’d like, and it was a long way down.
Our next destination was one of Iceland’s better-known waterfalls, the Goðafoss, which means “Waterfall of the Gods.” The main cascade (there’s a smaller one a short way downstream) is about 40′ high. The river above it is the Skjálfandafljót (pronounced “Snuffleupaguss”), which is the fourth longest river in Iceland.

🎨MEET THE ARTIST– Lindsay Clarke, Ivy Hollow Studios
“I was losing my mind working and managing my kid’s activities while never leaving the house. Painting is a creative outlet I do that’s just for me,” she said. “It makes me happy and takes my mind off everything.”
Growing up in Annapolis, she said she wasn’t a super artistic child. She pursued a career in information technology sales after graduating from the University of Maryland. She remembers her mother having similar feelings of wanting to find something that was just for her and taking a sculpting class at Maryland Hall, so she followed suit.
“The only class available at the time was an oil painting class. I took it and it was a blast. I haven’t looked back and now paint every day,” she said.
What she enjoys most about oil painting is that it’s an open medium. “You can do a lot with it. You’re not limited with color and whether using a painting knife or brushes, it’s so tactile in how it goes on a canvas.”
“I started seeing differently after I began painting. Now when I drive down Route 2 in Edgewater, I think about the different shade of green on top of a shrub when the sun is hitting it,” said Clarke. “I think more about how to make something look three-dimensional vs. two-dimensional and how to create depth and light vs. shadow.”
She often works on multiple paintings at once, saying she knows something is done when it stops annoying her.
When she’s not in the zone painting, she is busy with her full-time work and raising her family. She has been married for 10 years and they have three children – a 15-year-old daughter, and 9 and 7-year-old boys who are avid baseball players. Oh, and don’t forget their three dogs!

🥳History in your Backyard: 2024 London Town in Bloom Gala Event at Historic London Town and Gardens
Rain could not stop supporters of Historic London Town and Gardens raising money for a great cause
Supporters throughout Anne Arundel County came to the 2024 London Town in Bloom gala event at Historic London Town and Gardens to support their mission – to inspire present and future generations to a deeper understanding of the past, the environment, and our shared humanity.
Gala attendees enjoyed the pristine gardens, a gorgeous waterfront pavilion, a historic area featuring the historic William Brown House (c. 1760), and sweeping waterfront views while also raising money for a great cause – even with the rain.
“London Town in Bloom not only celebrates the beauty of the grounds but also raises funds to support the significant preservation work that we do here at London Town,” said Mickey Love, Executive Director of Historic London Town and Gardens. “It’s through the support of our donors that we can maintain the historic grounds and buildings while also providing programming that inspires a deeper understanding of the past.”
Each year, Historic London Town and Gardens provides educational public programming such as school tours to over 3,000 school students, exhibits, lectures, and fun-filled family events to thousands of residents and visitors.
Through a live and silent auction, raise the paddle, and sponsorships, the event raised over $55,000 for Historic London Town and Gardens. If you missed the event, you have the opportunity to visit Historic London Town and Gardens Wednesday through Sunday, 10:00am – 4:00pm. Visitor information can be found at www.historiclondontown.org.

Saint Andrew's United Methodist Day School was founded in 1986. Today, it serves just over 200 students across grades pre-K-8. However, its barn and garden and Green School initiatives truly set the school apart.
The school sits on 20 acres, allowing ample space for school buildings, a garden, a chicken coop, and a barn that houses goats Ivy, Rocco, Ninja and Nova. Since 2008, Saint Andrew’s has been formally recognized as a Green School by the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education.
Head of School Mark Wagner said, “We think of our barn and garden like we do our library. It is a resource that we use for teaching.”
Similarly, Jeffrey Southworth, the school’s Director of Advancement and Admissions, said, “Our green initiatives are integrated into everything we do. We strive to teach our students the importance of developing a healthy understanding of what it means to take care of our environment, property, be good stewards of the Earth, and of community outreach.”
Following the school’s principles of Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors, the garden helps students learn responsibility, self-discipline and empathy – but also how to serve others. A portion of the food they grow supports the local food pantry and community members in need.

Hi Shelley, Stroll is happy to showcase your business and introduce you to our readers. Tell me a little bit about yourself:
I love being on the water and in the sunshine so living In Edgewater for 10 plus years has been wonderful. I grew up in Anne Arundel County and have a local insurance agency here on Mayo Road. I am a proud mother to a 17-year-old son who attends South River High School.
How long has your business been in the area?
I originally opened my Allstate agency in Annapolis 14 years ago and then moved it here to Edgewater. The majority of our customers are in this area so it just made sense.
How did you get started in the insurance business?
My Dad was an insurance agent, and after I graduated from Towson he made me an offer to come work for him. It turned out to be the best decision I ever made.
How is business?
The last year and a half has been tough. Insurance premiums industry wide are on the rise and people are frustrated. We have been fielding a lot of calls and making sure we are reviewing policies and providing options to help.
What solutions do you provide to help lower premiums?
We have a lot of customers who work from home and who are not driving a lot so we have been able to help them save significantly. We have a program from Allstate where you Pay Per Mile, so anyone with an extra car, anyone who is retired or works from home… we have even been able to cut some premiums in half.
What advice do you have for our readers?
Take the time to review your policy at least once a year. Things may have changed, other options might be available, and consider potentially taking on some additional risk through higher deductibles and other options.
