TW: postpartum mood issues, body image, intrusive thoughts

These scenes break my heart and they are absolutely true to life for many mothers.

These thoughts and feelings are a big part of why I am a lactation consultant. I am sometimes the only person seeing a new mother at that critical moment who has the training, skills, and time to ask the right questions and share the info she needs to get help.

It's good to know that breastfeeding reduces the risk of postpartum mood disorders, but it's important to know that it doesn't *eliminate* the risk. And that's when breastfeeding is going WELL. Breastfeeding problems -- especially pain and low milk production -- actually are associated with a higher incidence of depression and anxiety.
