Good luck to all the age group men racing Kona tomorrow! It was a huge dream for Mike to qualify and now we are 12 hours away from the start of the race! We have been blessed to chat with so many talented racers over the years, and many are here racing tomorrow! We are going to post a story for each athlete we’ve had on the podcast with their bib numbers so you can easily track them. Already looking forward to chatting with the top age group racers from 2024 Kona!

Lars will be lining up with the 35-39 year old age groupers this month in Kona hoping to bring home a salad bowl. 💪

No doubt he’s capable of a bike split right up there with many pro athletes. In this weeks podcast talks about his race in Hamburg where he rode an incredible 4:03 bike split 🤯

Lars also shares about his race in Kona 2022 where he sat on the side of the climb to Hawi for 15 minutes contemplating whether he should quit the race. What did he ultimately decide?

We think this years age group race will be an exciting one to follow and most everyone has Lars right up front leading the race!

Another exciting Kona Build Up episode coming at you this week!

Mike & Michelle had the pleasure of chatting with Lars Wichert, currently the age group record holder for the Ironman distance! Lars raced 2024 Ironman Hamburg finishing 1st overall with a time of 7:50:42! And over 5 minutes ahead of 2nd place, in a truly incredible performance!

lives and trains in Germany and shares everything from his athletic background to the balance of being a parent, husband, employee, and triathlete. While his path and training schedule may be a bit unique, there’s no denying the incredible talent and determination he has.

Interestingly, Lars did not accept his Kona slot at Ironman Hamburg, but decided to race Ironman Frankfurt where he finished 2nd overall and did take his slot for 2024 Ironman World Championships in Kona. Listen to the episode to hear about why he made this decision and what his goals are for returning to Kona later this month.

70.3 Augusta is coming up this week for ! The last 10 weeks he’s been head down focused on the Kona build. By far the most swim, bike, and run volume he’s done in an Ironman build. No plan to taper into this 70.3 race, just train as normal and race like a big training day!

Mike’s goals - 1) Nail the nutrition plan 2) PR the swim/bike split 3) negative split the run. Follow along this weekend to see how it goes!!! 💪

THE 2024 KONA BUILD UP IS UNDERWAY! 💪

Mike & Michelle were excited to sit down for this conversation with Alfredo Ramirez Pinho who just won 2024 Ironman Wisconsin! This was a hometown race for Alfredo, which means the win was extra special. Not to mention the race took place just days after the birth of his 3rd child!

As a 35-39 age grouper and member of the Every Man Jack team, Alfredo shares how Ironman Wisconsin was a key element in this Kona build and a clear demonstration of where his fitness is at going into these final weeks of training before race day. Hear how he secured his spot to the World Championships and gain some insight into what a typical training week looks like for Alfredo.

Huge shout out to for having every nutrition in one place! This has allowed me to try stuff I otherwise wouldn’t have most likely known about and experiment with crazy flavors!

Check out this comparison of and PF. I’ve raced with PF for years and still might for Kona, but for training the cost difference between the two can’t be ignored,

Carbs fuel $26 for 1000g carbs
PF is $25 for 450g carbs

Carbs fuel has 6700mg electrolytes in a bag

PF has 7500mg

Over 2x the carbs for nearly the same price!

In this episode you’ll hear how had plans to race Ironman Arizona in 2023, but when an illness kept him from racing he had to shift his schedule around and start a new training block.

Being able to execute on race day is never guaranteed, but putting in the work always gives you the best chance to have a good race!!!

We are back for SEASON 3 with a focus on highlighting the male triathletes competing in the 2024 Kona Ironman World Championships in October!

Our first episode of the season features Andrew Hall, a standout athlete competing in the 35-39 age group. Andrew is by no means new to the sport of triathlon, but he has been very calm and calculated in his approach to racing and performing at the top level.

Living and training in Salt Lake City, Utah it’s safe to say that the Ironman Texas course was a bit different than his usual terrain. After some unexpected changes in his schedule, demands with work and life, Andrew worked hard to pull together a successful training block and so he could be ready to race in April. One huge goal he had was to secure his Kona slot, and that he did! Andrew executed on all disciplines on race day with a finishing time of 8:32 securing the overall age group win!

The 2024 Ironman triathlon rules prohibit water bottles down the front of an athlete’s race suit, including hydration inserts, during the bike segment of the race. This includes bottles in the front of the suit.

Looks like many of the top age groupers and pros are hacking this by mounting a BTA bottle higher and further back to still help close the gap infront of the chest and get air to move around the body better.

The racing at Ironman Texas was fast and furious! With 75 men’s Kona slots on the line many of the top AG names took the opportunity to punch their tickets to the 2024 Hawaii World Championships.

If you wondered how fast you needed to go to get a slot I took the time to dig deep. Only a few slots in the men’s race rolled down. So this is just based on the slots available and the placement in each age group.

9:28 40-44 11th
9:36 45-49 10th
9:56 50-54 9th
10:14 55-59 6th

Big Age Group Race this Saturday!

75 women’s Nice and 75 Men’s Kona Slots available at Ironman Texas.

For the Men’s Kona Allocation the majority of Ironmans are in the ballpark of 25-40 slots per race so this Texas race is a one of the few better opportunities to get the ticket.

Who has a pulse on the top age group race? Throw some names out of who you think might win their age group or if you are trying to get a Kona slot let us know so we can follow along on Saturday.
