Wednesday morning Milton update...
All the models have come into agreement that Milton's eye should make landfall at Sarasota around 10 pm tonight (give or take an hour). Rainfall is expected to actually be mostly ahead of the eye and will be less after the eye so this high-resolution model (HRRR) video is showing projected wind speeds as it enhances the eye location. Anything in the gray area is 100+ mph so it could depict 100 mph or 150 mph. The eye is clearly visible coming on shore in Sarasota.
In case you missed my post on it, I've added a live local (Tampa) radar for the event.... https://vermilionweather.com/wxhurricanetracker.php

Hurricane Milton update Tuesday 10-8-24...
The new NAM3 short term model is out this morning and it's showing Hurricane Milton coming on shore as a strong Cat 3 at Sarasota Florida at appr 8 am central (9 eastern).
So this supports my earlier opinion that Milton will slide a little south of Tampa right before landfall.
Will give further update later today.

Milton projected path on 10-7-24
Hurricane Milton update Monday 10-7-24...
Milton is a monster of a hurricane currently churning thru the Gulf Of Mexico as a Category 5 hurricane making a beeline for Florida's West Coast. Not much change in the track from earlier reports but maybe making landfall a little bit further south than originally thought. Current indications are looking like between Tampa and Sarasota as a cat-3 or strong cat-2 hurricane.
Tomorrow we'll get the short range models coming into play and will be able to pinpoint the projected landfall area a little better.

Sunday (10-6-24) Hurricane Milton models update...
Not much change in the model(s) from yesterday on Milton's path and arrival time. Both the GFS and the NAM12 models show Milton impacting the West coast of Florida just north of Tampa on Wednesday as a Category 3 Hurricane. Safe to say that the entire West coast of Florida from The Big Bend to Key West will be feeling the impact of Milton.
Will be updating this at least daily then multiple times as it gets nearer.
Attached video shows the GFS model forecast first then followed by the NAM12 forecast.

GFS Hurricane Milton path
GFS model showing Milton forming near Mexico the next day or 2 and moving across Gulf of Mexico impacting West coast of Florida just North of St. Petersburg on Wednesday then proceeding on thru Florida toward Atlantic Ocean.
Expect some possible changes to timing and path in next couple of days.

News of Village Mall's new owner creating excitement throughout Danville
Much of the excitement is focuses on replacements for the Garfield’s restaurant and AMC movie theater.
Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. said two movie-theater operators have made first visits to the mall, and higher-up officials with one of them have already been back for a second visit.
“There was interest,” Williams said.
The AMC Village Mall 6 closed in 2022.
Another area of buzz involves letters of intent the former mall owners secured with Five Below and Ollie’s Bargain Outlet to open locations that never came to fruition.
“I don’t know if they are still valid,” Williams said about the letters of intent.
Williams said Virk also wants to bring an indoor theme park in the style of Malibu Jack’s in Springfield to the mall.
“He wants that type of entertainment,” Williams said about a facility for all ages that could include an arcade, mini golf, a go-kart track, bowling or laser tag.

NWS issued: Special Weather Statement for Vermilion (Illinois)
Details:
...Gusty Winds And Sharply Colder Temperatures...
Strong northwest winds will occasionally gust between 35 and 50 mph this morning, gradually diminishing during the afternoon hours.
The gusty winds will help bring in much colder temperatures today.
The feel- like temperature will only range between the teens and
lower 20s this afternoon, then approach single digits overnight.
Otherwise, there remains a low chance (10-20%) for snow showers this morning, mainly east of a Galesburg-to-Lawrencville line where
visibility could become reduced for a brief time.
The strong winds this morning may cause spotty travel difficulties,
particularly for high profile vehicles.

Hurricane IAN 9-28-2022 @ 8 am
Many of us have family, friends or property in the Florida. Prayers and thoughts going out to all those in the path of this huge and dangerous storm.
Currently, at 8am it is approaching Category 5 level and has turned a bit more right than was projected yesterday and heading for landfall near Ft. Myers area instead of Tampa area. Storm surge and winds will still impact the entire west coast of Florida.

Groundhog day (next Wednesday 2-2-2022 and Thursday 2-3-2022) possible winter storm...
No, this is not a Snowzilla warning post you see this time of year from clickbait sites. Just giving a heads up to the 1st major snow/winter storm to impact East Central Illinois next week. There is still plenty of time for path to change and other variables. This is the GFS Weather Model projection for next Wed-Thurs showing a potential major winter storm impacting Central Illinois. The GREEN is rain, PINK is freezing rain, ORANGE is sleet and BLUE is snow.
This video shows the current model run showing our area being right in the mix zone with all forms of precip possible. If this storm tracks further to the south than currently projected, it would mean more snow. If it goes further to the north then it would mean more rain, less snow.
This is still 6 days away so expect it to change, but be prepared in case it doesn't.
The end of the video shows projected "Snowdepth" after the storm passes. You can see the snowdepth increase as the cursor goes further north.
So don't go buying all the milk and bread from the store just yet. Monitor for updates.
