USA has lost to the Netherlands by four runs, bowled out for 128 in 19.1 overs chasing a target of 132 in a match that seemingly only USA was capable of losing. USA was 75 for 2 in 9 overs and only needed 58 runs off the final 66 balls with 8 wickets in hand. But A***n Dutt swung the game in favor of the Dutch with a double-wicket over in the 10th to get Aaron Jones bowled sweeping and then Nitish Kumar bowled playing a flick. From that point forward, USA's lineup looked like deer in the headlights. When Shayan Jahangir was dismissed lbw for 3 off 10 in Daniel Doram's third over in the 12th, it became clear USA was determined to crumble in the face of the slightest bit of Dutch pressure.

Harmeet Singh then slogged Max O'Dowd's part-time spin to long-on in the 14th before Andries Gous fell lbw for 43 to a ball that turned in sharply and kept low from spinner Zach Lion-Cachet. Shadley van Schalkwyk was bowled playing down the wrong line to Dutt in the 16th. Jessy Singh came in and hit a full toss for six off Doram in the 18th to bring the equation back in USA's favor needing 7 runs off 12 balls with 2 wickets in hand, but Singh then looked frozen with extreme hesitation at the non-striker's end to start the 19th, turning down two clear singles from Kenjige before a near runout on the third ball.

Once Singh got on strike, he ran himself out after an lbw shout resulted in the ball going to backward point and a confused attempt to initially look for a single as Lion-Cachet swooped in from point and underhanded into the stumps, almost a carbon copy of Jahangir's dismissal in the final ODI v Netherlands in Rotterdam (except that Lion-Cachet underhanded into the stumps rather than Edwards running directly to the stumps in Rotterdam). See the image to highlight USA's mindset in this moment down the stretch after Singh is runout with Kenjige gesturing as if to say, "what were you thinking?!" USA needed 5 off the final over but Netherlands fast bowler Paul van Meekeren needed just a single delivery to bowl last man Yasir Mohammad.

Not for the first time on tour, USA has thrown away an extraordinary winning position against the Netherlands to eventually lose and remain in search of their first win against the Dutch. Perhaps no two matches highlight USA's incredible will to collapse than the two losses to the Netherlands at Voorburg, in the ODI and now today in the T20I.

The Importance of Supporting Women's Cricket in the USA 🇺🇸🏏

Cutting off women's cricket in the USA isn't just a missed opportunity—it's a major setback for the growth of the game. By sidelining women's cricket, we lose out on 50% of our potential market. Women can be fans, players, coaches, and leaders in the cricket ecosystem, contributing significantly to the sport's development.

Supporting women's cricket is not just about equality—it's about making smart business decisions. When we promote women's participation, we expand our reach, diversify our audience, and create a more inclusive environment that benefits everyone involved. Let's push for more opportunities, more visibility, and more support for women in cricket to help grow the game across America!

Together, we can make cricket a sport for everyone. 🌟

Baseball to Cricket: Nate Hays' Unexpected Passion

Nate Hays, a former collegiate Division 1 baseball player, shares his unexpected journey into the world of cricket. His love affair with the sport began with a memorable and electrifying moment during a cricket match featuring Wahab Riaz and Shane Watson. It was during this famous spell that Hays first saw contemporary cricket, and it instantly captivated him.

Describing the experience, Hays recalls being astounded by the intensity and drama of the game. Unlike anything he had witnessed in baseball, the spell's fierce competitiveness drew him in. Wahab Riaz, in a fiery display, was delivering a remarkable bowling performance against Shane Watson, who was in a vulnerable position. The tension was palpable as Watson tried to counter Wahab’s unrelenting attack.

Hays vividly remembers the moment when Watson attempted to take on Wahab, only to be dropped at deep fine leg. The whole scene—from the near-miss to Wahab’s exuberant celebration, clapping aggressively in Watson’s face from a distance—was filled with raw energy and passion. For Hays, this moment was reminiscent of baseball legend Nolan Ryan's intimidating presence on the mound.

This intense display of skill, emotion, and competition was enough to make Hays, a former baseball player, fall in love with cricket. The game, which once seemed foreign, now held a special place in his heart, drawing parallels to the sportsmanship and vigor he admired in baseball. Nate Hays’ journey from a baseball diamond to cricket pitches is a testament to the universal appeal of sport and how its intensity can captivate any athlete, regardless of their background.

Cricket's NCAA Potential: Focused Growth in Key US States

In a recent discussion, the expansion of cricket as an NCAA sport was highlighted, drawing parallels to the development of ice hockey in certain universities. The conversation revolved around the strategic approach necessary to elevate cricket within the collegiate sports framework in the United States. Unlike ice hockey, which has a stronghold in universities like Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State, cricket doesn't require nationwide adoption across all states to gain momentum.

The key to cricket's NCAA potential lies in focusing on regions where the sport already has a substantial following. The discussion pointed out that cricket is heavily concentrated in states like California, North Carolina, Texas, Florida, New York, and New Jersey. Rather than pushing for cricket programs in every state, the strategy should involve establishing NCAA Division I programs in universities located in these cricket-rich regions.

Universities like UNC, NC State, Duke, Texas A&M, University of Houston, UT Austin, UCLA, USC, and San Jose State were identified as prime candidates for initiating cricket programs. By concentrating efforts on these institutions, cricket can build a strong collegiate presence that could eventually inspire further expansion.

The conversation underscores the importance of a targeted approach in developing cricket as a recognized NCAA sport. With the right focus, cricket could carve out a significant niche in the American collegiate sports landscape, starting with key universities in cricket-friendly states.
