It breaks my heart to share a post like this, but I feel like I need to. These past six months have been a bit tough for us. In the blink of an eye, weāve lost both of our beloved dogs ā our sweet Lily in March, who was 15, and now, just six months later, our brave Cody, who was 13, on Friday.
All you animal lovers out there know that they arenāt just pets; they are family.
Lily came into my life in 2009 after being rescued after being thrown out of a car. From the moment I met her, she became the heartbeat of our little home. She journeyed with me through Dallas, Austin, Memphis, D.C., and back to Dallas. When Rick joined our lives in Austin, Lily welcomed him with open paws, forming an instant bond.
Our little family grew when we adopted Cody in Memphis. At the shelter, we spotted a sad-looking reddish-brown puppy curled up in a corner. He had been abandoned in a field, then rescued by the SPCA. His kennel friend had just been adopted, and he was feeling down. When he looked up at us, we knew we had to meet him. It was love at first lick. Lily sealed the deal when we brought her to meet Cody. From that day on, they were inseparable ā Lily & Cody.
Lily was incredibly smart and full of energy. Her big eyes, loving licks, and endless paw shakes won over even the toughest hearts. She was the perfect dog, always making us feel loved, and always demanding to play fetch in the backyard.
Cody, with his teddy bear cuteness, always put a smile on our faces. He was one of the happiest dogs, and everyone we met on walks couldnāt resist asking about him or giving him back scratches. Even as he got older and slowed down, his spirit never wavered. Despite surgery to remove a tumor in 2021 and his battle with lymphoma this year, he remained resilient and full of love.
Losing them both in such a short time has been incredibly tough. I know they are together now, running, jumping, and playingāLily swimming while Cody barks at her from the shore.
Lily and Cody, you are, were, and will always be the best dogs ever. I love you both so much, and until I see you again, know that your dog dads miss you every day.
I love you both, forever and always ā¤ļøš¾
