Solid Black Obsidian Cabochon polished to a mirror finish. This is one of the most difficult things to photograph because of the mirror polish. So what you are seeing is the reflection of my dining room chandelier. With this you can see how crisp the polish is. This is a calibrated round 35mm cabochon. I shaped this cabochon free-handed on a custom made and very old intarsia machine, profiled it using the most basic 6" cabochon machine that Kingsley North sold several years ago using nearly worn out soft wheels and polished with Cerium Oxide (red) on Elk Hide.

Here is a grit and polish storage solution that I have come up with. It works well for me since I do larger batches. I also talk about storage solutions for smaller quantities of grit and polish. There are also some free ideas as well.

We Miss You Jim.

These rocks were collected by the Late Jim Plummer. He was always picking up rocks from the places he was at. He went on rock hounding adventures with myself and the Mrs. Jaws Jr. He seemed to always have a recently found rock in his pocket. His daughter, gave me many of his rocks and I promised to get some of them polished, and this is the results. They are not perfect, but at the same time, they are perfect. I hope you understand.
