How to even start!? Last night the Mary Collins Agency honored our talent with an agency/actor party to celebrate our 40th year, but the actors may have gotten the last word. Several participated in a congratulatory "secret" video that basically rendered Mary Collins speechless. And that's saying a lot. Check out this talented bunch!

On this very date, March 5th—in 1984!—I opened the Mary Collins Agency. I’m pleased to announce that today we’re kicking off a year of celebrating four decades of excellence in talent representation.

Ten years, much less forty in this industry, wouldn’t have been possible without our talent, clients, associates, friends, families and of course my incredible staff. I thank all of you for your business and support at every step along the way. As they say, “stay tuned.”

We at the Mary Collins Agency are brokenhearted to share that we have lost our long-time actor and precious dear friend, Constance Jones. She passed away at home on New Year’s Day. She was 61.

We signed Constance in 1990 when she was 28. She was a multi-talented actor and dancer. Over the 34 years we represented her, she was featured in numerous commercials, corporate videos, and did a lot of spokesperson work. Her experience also included roles in film and television, and her velvety voice could be heard on productions of every sort.

Many of you who worked with Constance over the years know she was not only a consummate professional, but also a delight on the set or in the studio. And if you knew her personally, you knew her big heart and her love for animals. She left behind her beloved dog Cheyenne, which was only one of many she took in and lovingly cared for over the years.

The agency staff was blessed to be able to attend her service today, and several MCA actors were in attendance as well. Mary spoke of our dear Constance, and we provided a tribute video for the service.

This is so amazing! This ad––a collaboration of talent agents throughout our state––appears in the current edition of VARIETY's "Location Update: Texas." It represents an effort by agents who, by combining our resources, successfully gained support and provided awareness for our urgent need for competitive film incentives.

For this advocacy, I was asked to reach out to over 30 agents to solicit their participation in working toward the common goal of gaining better opportunities for our clients. Of course, I knew most of the agents, but was glad to get to know those in other markets, and thrilled to have most everyone's involvement.

Our thanks to TXMPA Board Members, Communications Director Mindy Raymond Benson and Talent Representative Trish Avery for their direction and involvement. And a special shout-out to fellow agent and TXMPA At-Large Representative Linda McAlister who I enjoyed working with on this most important project that will benefit everyone in media production in Texas. On behalf of the incredible organization, Texas Motion Picture Alliance (TXMPA), which I had the honor to do some work with over the past several months, we can now announce to the world that Texas is Open for Business again for production!

On Friday, Governor Abbott signed the appropriations bill we have ALL been working for...not just this 88th Legislative session, but going back to 2006! Every two years TXMPA works for more competitive incentives for our state. This $200M is the largest incentive plan we have ever had, and is very competitive with other states that have been getting this work over us.
My thanks to the TXMPA Board and everyone who rolled up their sleeves, especially those I worked directly with, board members Trish Avery, Linda McAlister and 30 talent agents across the state, to express our need for these incentives. My thanks also to everyone, including my amazing agents and actors, who went to work contacting their representatives and explaining why this is good for Texas. The spend creates a 5 to 1 return on investment, and not only helps the experienced and talented Texas actors and crew who make their living at this, but all of the support services who benefit as well, including but not limited to local hotels, restaurants, travel services and ground transportation, lumber yards, retail and others who benefit when production comes to their city! LET'S GO TEXAS! WE'RE BACK IN BUSINESS!!!

We are so proud to have represented Sally Nystuen Vahle for the last 29 of the 30 years she has been part of the Dallas Theater Center! Besides being a force in the theater community in Dallas, she is an exceptional talent both in front of the camera and behind the mic. We couldn't be more proud of you Sally Nystuen Vahle!

Texas Monthly honored our own Louanne Stephens recently in their article "Ten Best Texas Actors of 2022." Louanne's recent work on the film "Vengeance" with BJ Novak (and of course every production she touches) is always warmly received. Here's an excerpt from the article: "Stephens instantly enlivens whatever scene she’s in, springing like a coiled rattlesnake on all of her too-few lines. The monologue where she gives Novak’s New York hipster a condensed Texas history lesson is one of the film’s standout moments, with Stephens volleying from tart-tongued sass into genuine tears as she recounts the Alamo “massa-cree” (which she rhymes with “sea,” the way my own granny would have). Already looking forward to our 39th year! But in the meantime, oh the memories ...

38 years ago: The push-button phone; the small rolodex with my first few clients; even the ashtray! And my very sparse furniture, all bought second-hand.

So, very humble beginnings, in a fourplex in Oaklawn that had a leaky roof, and hairdressers in two of the other suites who, when they turned on their blow dryers, would knock my power out.

No matter, I managed to open for business and have kept the standards I had then of quality talent over quantity to this very day. Thank you for joining me for this wonderful journey–I wouldn’t have changed a thing along the way!
