GACH Gives Ex-Governor Suso D100,000 to Kick Deadly Kush Out

The Gambia-Angola-China-Holdings Global Group (GACH Global Group) has on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, given one hundred thousand dalasi to the Former Deputy Governor of West Coast Region, and his youth dialogue team to embark on Youths Dialogue Kick Kush Out Of The Gambia-Chapter.

The campaign will kick start on Saturday at the North Bank Region's administrative capital Barra and Essau.

The Youth Dialogue is dedicated to drug and illicit substances sensitization and prevention. The sensitization tour aims to educate communities across the North Bank Region, Barra, and Essau about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of preventive measures.

Speaking to the GACH Media Network, the former deputy governor to the West Coast Region, Musa Suso said he is concerned about the rising number of young Gambians losing their lives to the deadly Kush adding that most of the young people lack the knowledge of the dangers of the deadly drug.
"So due to these reasons, we want to embark on a massive campaign in the North Bank Region to sensitize the youth population. This is the affected area in the country that begins to lose its young people as a result of Kush abuse." Suso explained.

Musa Suso who is also the Chairperson of the Youth Dialogue said it's based on this reason he reached out to the Chief Executive Officer of the GACH Global Group, Dr. Abubacarr Jawara to render the necessary support they need.
"Thank God Dr. Jawara agreed to support us with one hundred thousand dalasi which we are much more grateful for his continued support for the Gambian people." Suso lament.

The Chief Executive Officer of the GACH Global Group, Dr. Abubakary Jawara expresses delight in the youth initiative calling it crucial in combating the rising instances of drug misuse and promoting a healthier, safer society.

Dr. Jawara says his GACH is with the belief that with all hands on desks, deadly Kush can be kicked out of the country and there comes a safer zone for the youthful population.
Jawara reiterates that he will continue to render support in all forms within his reach.

Kush is a deadly drug believed to be manufactured from human bones and was discovered in Sierra Leone where it claimed so many lives before being discovered in the Gambia where it claimed many lives, particularly in the Youths.

APPRECIATION POST!!

The management of LSTV1 wishes to write and send its sincere appreciation to Brikama Sports Committee, Affiliated teams and some first and second division clubs in the Gambia after an incredible journey of football coverage on LSTV1 in the past Nawettan and League season.

We have to first and foremost send our sincere appreciation to Brikama Sports Committee and Nawettan teams in Brikama for opening the doors for LSTV1 to cover Nawettan games in Brikama in the season of 2023/24.

Our debut season of Nawettan football coverage in Brikama has attracted us to a lot of Nawettan teams and gave us the opportunity to cover a lot of Nawettan games in Brikama and beyond.

Match coverages during Nawettan games has also upgraded our team of match commentators which gave them the opportunity to cover GFF Men's Division1 and 2 after the approval from Gambia Football Federation.

TO FORTUNE FOOTBALL CLUB.

We can't go further without acknowledging the Incredible collaboration and partnership we had with Fortune FC after being one of the first if not the first divisional clubs to have the trust and confidence in LSTV1 in covering all their league games.

From this point, we had an agreement with Fortune FC to feature all their league games and the journey was all cordial with the support of club Secretary General (MuhammedLamin Drammeh) and Team President(Assan Ndure) during the entire season.

Ala Baraka Baakeh Fortune FC for the partnership and collaboration and we are looking forward to more of such in the coming season.

TO BRIKAMA UTD AND BOMBADA FC

We can't find the adjectives to describe the route we had with these amazing football clubs in Brikama after featuring some of their league games even though they had the same intention as Fortune FC to cover all their league games.

We couldn't cover all for them due to our limited capacity in covering all league games even at a time when there is a clash of games.

Special thanks to Lamin Dembajang and his entire executive for the trust and confidence in LSTV1 and also to the entire management an staff of Bombada FC with the support of Ebrima Bojang (Dida).
We wouldn't be fair without mentioning Greater Tomorrow FC after covering few of their games as well.

TO BST GALAXY AND TMT.

In as much as the intention is always to cover all GFF Men's Division1 league games, but the capacity wasn't in our favor, BST Galaxy FC and TMT FC all contacted but their only games featured were the ones that does not coincide with Fortune FC as we had an agreement with Fortune to cover all their games.

We are very much appreciative to both BST Galaxy and TMT for the short partnership and we're looking forward to more of that in the 2024/25 season.

Special acknowledgement goes to Wagadu FC, Jamcity FC and Sibanor United after having some match coverages on LSTV1 in the league and the Play-Off games for Sibanor United against E.Sohna and Baalor Sarr FC.
Special thanks to the management of Jamcity, Wagadu FC and Coach Ebrima Camara of Sibanor United for facilitating the match coverages.

TO WCR ZONAL COMMITTEE

We have to send our sincere appreciation to WCR Zonal committee after entrusting us with their match coverages most especially their double finals between Foni and Gunjur in the WCR Zonal Competition of 2023/24 season.

TO NAWETTAN CENTERS IN WCR, KOMBO SOUTH AND KOMBO EAST.

We wouldn't be fair too if we did not acknowledge the partnership we had with Nawettan centers and district committees in covering their games most especially their finals.

We covered finals in Kombo South and Kombo East and we also had the time to cover finals in Gunjur, Jambanjelly, Sanyang, Nyofelleh, Siffoe, Tanji and many other local communities in West Coast Region and beyond.

TO EBBEH GII FC IN SK EAST

The partnership with Ebbeh GII FC in the Serrekunda East summer Nawettan was also amazing and we most commend them for their trust and unflinching support during the period.

Special thanks to Pa-Modou Tamba and friend for facilitating the live streaming of the GFF Men's Division1 game between Steve Biko FC and Falcons FC at the SK East with the utmost support from Salieu Jallow of Capital FM.
Ala Baraka Baakeh comrades.

FINALLY, FINALLY AND FINALLY!

To the entire sporting fraternity of the Gambia, fellow Journalists and all those that supported us on the successful journey in football match coverages in the Gambia.
We are very much appreciative to all Gambians in giving us the support and most especially to those Journalists that were there to give assistance when needed.
Special thanks to our team of commentators and camera crew of Ousman Camara, Nyimansata Cham, Pa Lamin Fatty, Abdul Latif MD Jatta, Kemo Kanyi and all those that assisted in the names of Lamin Manneh, Buba NK Touray, Mass Sanyang, ModouLamin Sanyang, Momodou B Jallow, Sheikh Sidat Kijabi, Fatou B Camara, Lamin Jarra, Ebrima KB Sonko, Essa Bah, Amadou Tamba, Salieu Jallow and co.

Special thanks to you all and we're looking forward to an incredible 2024/25 football season on LSTV1.

MADI JOBARTEH RESPONDS TO OFFICE OF THE CLERK ON NATIONAL ASSEMBLY SALARIES AND PENSIONS BILL 2024.

Human Right Activist(Madi Jobarteh) has responded to the office of the clerk of the National Assembly after the office released a statement on the controversial "National Assembly Salaries and Pensions Bill 2024"

In his response to the office of the clerk after the release of their statement, Madi Jobarteh wrote.
"The Clerk of the National Assembly has issued a press release claiming to clarify that they are only seeking to repeal and replace the 1997 National Assembly Salaries and Pensions Act. In so doing, he said they are only focused on three issues relating to gratuity. Thus, he concluded that the current bill is not seeking to increase the allowances of NAMS.

I find this press release to be misleading and false. In the first place, since the creation of this law in 1997 and amended in 2007, the National Assembly has not been following it. Over the years, the National Assembly has been increasing its salaries, pensions and benefits as they see fit. For example, in 2022 NAMs increased their own salary amidst public outcry. They argued that their counterparts in other countries receive far more salary, and further indicating that their work and status deserve such salary increment.

In fact, on the debate about the salary increase, Hon. Touma Njai was the only NAM who stood up to say she was ashamed to call herself an Honourable Member in expressing her opposition to the increment which was part of the budget estimates. That increment did not follow the existing law that the Clerk now claims to repeal and replace.

Apart from salaries, we have also seen during the fifth legislature how NAMs were provided with pieces of land and brand new pick-up trucks which are incentives that are not covered by the National Assembly Salaries and Pensions Act. Only PDOIS NAMs rejected the trucks. Furthermore, in 2020 the Gambia Participate and CRPD jointly took the National Assembly to court to object to the D54M loan scheme created by NAMs for themselves and the Supreme Court ruled against the loan. Then in 2023, we have also seen NAMs provide themselves with brand new Prado SUVs.

All of these are incentives that the National Assembly Members have showered on themselves in total contravention of the existing law that guides how they should be remunerated. Therefore, it is misleading and false for the Clerk to claim that this current bill is merely to repeal and replace and address gratuity. It is more than that. This bill is meant to increase their salaries, allowances, pension and gratuity.

The evidence lies in these two pictures which are the schedules to the current 1997 law and the 2024 bill. It is clear that the salaries and allowances in the two documents are different thereby indicating increase.

The National Assembly, the Judiciary and the Executive have been showering themselves with untold incentives, salaries, allowances and benefits over the years. Yet their performance and delivery do not match their reward. Therefore, they cannot continue to increase these benefits. They do not deserve any increment and there should be a moratorium on them. The national cake is not for only the President, Ministers, NAMs and Judges."

SINCERE APOLOGY TO HON. Essa Mbye Faal

Dear Hon Essa Mbye Faal

Unfortunately that post was approved by me.
I asked our online team to always fact-check … they did but went with just the heading on an article in google… without doing due diligence by reading the whole article…

Therefore, I MARIE SOCK, I AM SENDING A SINCERE APOLOGY TO YOU FOR THAT INEXCUSABLE ERROR!

I AM ALWAYS MAKING SURE THAT WE FACT-CHECK AND NO DISRESPECT TO ANY POLITICAL LEADER AS WE ARE ALL ADVOCATING FOR A WAY FORWARD FOR THE GAMBIA ..

Thank you for your service during that period of the TRRC and I hope together we can bring about the change we really do want for The Gambia, our homeland .

ESSA MBYE FAAL RESPONDS TO HON. MARIE SOCK'S COMMENTARY

"I have seen the comment on LSTV1 about me that has been attributed to Hon. Marie Sock of the Alliance for Social Democrats. Apparently, it’s a remark she made in response to my criticism of the proposed salary increases for Members of the National Assembly. It reads “ Mr Essa Mbye Faal.. great piece and all facts indeed!!BUT during the TRRC, when your salary was allocated, did you consider such disparities at the time, ( was it not to the tune of about half a million dalasis per month,) because they never changed!! The police, nurses and teachers etc…

We can not call the kettle black when it does not suit us”

I have always stated that I give all political leaders the greatest respect regardless of who they are. As such I will never go out and attempt to embarrass any leader in the opposition; certainly not to score cheap political points and especially from a misinformed position.

Even though Hon. Marie Sock’s misinformed comment does not deserve a response, I would give her the courtesy of providing her with the information out of RESPECT for her- a courtesy she did not accord me.

My salary at the TRRC was D100.000 per month. It was later (after a year or thereabouts) increased to D110.000 per month.

I know that the going rate for Lead Counsel for these Commissions at the time was D500.000. Even the President believed that I was being paid that sum. However, when I negotiated my salary, I agreed with the then AG that they should just reimburse my monthly travel cost between Banjul and Dakar. We calculated the cost of fuel and other travel expenses for my travels back and forth between Banjul and Dakar every weekend as I was running an important project in Dakar. We settled for D100.000 and a vehicle to be allocated to me with orderly and guards for my home.

When the TRRC started, I declined to take the orderly and guards. I paid for my own watchman at my home. The AG later complained that they did not have funds to purchase a vehicle as the funds they had received had sunk in the Consolidated Fund. I purchased my own vehicle that was suitable to tackle the journeys to and from Dakar that I needed to do to run my project. It turned out to be cheaper for the Commission to pay me the D100.000 than to be giving me the fuel which I would have been entitled to anyway together with the D500.000 salary that Lead Counsel was supposed to earn. Please note also that the entire D100.000 I was being paid went to humanitarian causes supporting Gambians. Esteemed Gambians like Deputy Chairman of TRRC Adelaide Sosseh can attest to the fact that all that money went to Gambians. In essence my work for the TRRC was for FREE, even the fuel money (structured in the form of a salary) that I received was given out to Gambians.

I thank Hon. Marie Sock for the time she has taken to address an important socio-economic issue affecting Gambian workers and wish her all the very best in her future endeavors.

No To Salary Increments for Top Public Officials!

By Madi Jobarteh.

In the Gambia, the President, Ministers, National Assembly Members and Judges are the highest paid public servants. They are not only well paid, but they are also well served and protected with numerous lucrative incentives and benefits that would be difficult to justify, morally, legally and economically. Furthermore, these public officials are entrusted with immense powers, privileges and immunities which are enough to make them lords over the people. Yet. consistently these officials continue to demand an increase of their salaries, incentives and benefits.

The only reason these officials are showered with such lucrative salaries, incentives, benefits and privileges is for only one purpose: to serve the best interest of the Gambia. That is, to ensure that the rights of Gambians are protected, and their needs are fulfilled so as to guarantee freedom, prosperity and hope for the people. But sre the performing that function effectively and efficiently as required by law. NO.

The wealth of the country is not the property, and for the benefit of only a few people. Rather the wealth of the country belongs to all Gambians. In fact, those who work in the State are servants of the rest of the population. Their task is to utilize public wealth in such a way as to provide better life, freedom and hope to the people. Hence the purpose of the State is to serve the people and not to serve only a few bunch of public servants.

Unfortunately, since Independence, officials of the State have subverted the purpose of the State towards themselves to serve their selfish interest at the detriment of the interests of the majority of the people. Not only have they sought to legalize and legitimize unjustified and unethical incentives for themselves, but also corruption, inefficiency and incompetence is rife within the State in total contravention of the Constitution and other laws of the Gambia. Not only do these State officials ignore corrupt practices but they also encourage and protect corruption and its perpetrators to the severe detriment of the majority of Gambians. It has to stop.

For example, while they impose huge taxes on the people and take huge loans in the name of the people and receive huge grants on behalf of the people, the Executive has failed to effectively and efficiently manage the economy such that most Gambians will be out of poverty. Despite rising taxes, loans and grants, there is no commensurate increase in the availability and delivery of public goods and services. Instead, the cost of living continues to increase while there are limited opportunities for employment, investment, and economic wellbeing which is why Gambians are eager to flee their country by any means possible to seek greener pastures elsewhere.

Meantime the National Assembly continues to fail to play their oversight function as effectively as required by the Constitution to ensure that they discipline the Executive. Rather NAMs have turned the parliament into a theater to defend the Executive and their political party and selfish interests instead of standing up for the best interest of citizens.

The Judiciary on the other hand has failed to ensure that there are dignified and equipped courthouses with all the tools necessary to ensure quick access to and efficient delivery of justice to the people. Visit the courthouses from Banjul to Basse to realize how ill-equipped, unfit and poorly maintained courtrooms are. Consequently, Gambians found it difficult to enjoy the protection of houses of justice as court processes are unnecessarily long. What then is the interest of the Chief Justice and the Judiciary? Is it to deliver justice to Gambians first and foremost or is their interest to secure their lives and future at the detriment of the people?

There should be a 10-year moratorium on salary increment for the President, Ministers, NAMs and Judges. Rather, Gambians should insist that they perform and deliver their functions as set out in the Constitution. These officials are already hugely catered for and there is no moral, legal or institutional justification to shower them up with any more incentives. The national cake is not for them alone when most of the public servants are paid a pittance.

Rather, Gambians must demand that the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary stop perpetrating corruption, mismanagement of public resources, and waste. They must be told to abide by and uphold the Constitution in the performance of their functions. So far, they are underperforming woefully thereby turning the Gambia into a highly indebted poor country where deprivation, injustice, insecurity and lack of opportunities are rife thus threatening national cohesion and stability.

Following Essa Mbye Faal's op-ed on the proposed judicial bill that will ensure hefty perks for top tier members of the judiciary, What's on Gambia also carried the story and the piece attracted commentary from many. ESSA M FAAL REACTS TO PROPOSED BILL AIMED AT INCREASING REMUNERATION FOR JUDICIAL OFFICERS AND NAMS.

Essa M Faal, former presidential candidate has reacted to the proposed bill aimed at increasing the renumeration for judicial officers and National Assembly Members.

Team Turn Around leader took to his official page and wrote. "I am deeply dismayed by the recent developments surrounding the proposed bills in the National Assembly aimed at increasing the remuneration for judicial officers and members of the National Assembly. The profound shock and discontentment I feel have led me to stand in solidarity with those angered by it and protest against this concerning decision.

I am a huge proponent and firm believer that ALL public officers should receive fair compensation to lead dignified lives, free from the burdens of poverty, allowing them to focus on their responsibilities without the worry of meeting their families' basic needs. Furthermore, I advocate for equitable pay for the work done and a transparent system of remuneration, as these principles are vital in combating corruption and motivating public servants.

Unfortunately, the current discussions on salary increments reveal a significant abuse of power and misplaced priorities favoring the privileged few at the expense of those in lower levels of our society. How can we justify a situation where the Speaker of the National Assembly receives D245,000 per month, while a police officer earns only D3000-3500? Such disparities are not only devoid of compassion but are also unjustifiable, underscoring the skewed priorities of the present government.

Amidst the challenges faced by ordinary Gambians due to the high cost of living, it is disheartening to see a focus on benefiting the wealthy minority rather than addressing the pressing needs of the majority. This system of "YEKALANTE" further perpetuates severe inequality, marginalizes the most vulnerable in our society and erodes confidence. It is therefore imperative for the government to remember that they are servants of the people, not themselves, and to prioritize the welfare of all citizens.

I express my solidarity with the underpaid workers of The Gambia in rejecting the exploitation of the nation's limited resources. Furthermore, such unjust practices tarnish the government's reputation and erode public trust. I urge for a return to pragmatism, sound reasoning, empathy, and compassion in governance. Greed, selfishness and utter lack of compassion for the downtrodden MUST STOP.

In closing , to those who cannot pay rent- I feel your pain; to those who cannot pay school fees for your children, I feel your pain; to those who cannot give food/fish money to your families, I feel your pain; to those who cannot buy needed medicine, I feel your pain; and to those experiencing other hardships, I feel your pain. And to all of you, I offer my unwavering support and assurance that real SYSTEM change for a better Gambia is on the horizon."

DLEAG ARREST TWENTY SUSPECTED NIGERIAN SCAMMERS

As the Agency intensify supply suppression related interdiction regimes aimed at countering drug abuse, illicit drug trafficking and related transnational organised crime, operatives of DLEAG alongside personnel of The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) conducted a sting operations that led to the arrest of twenty (20) Nigerian Nationals suspected to be engaged in online scanning, documentation fraud and other forms of criminal related activities.
Fifteen of the suspects were arrested with twenty-three (23) laptops and eighteen (18) mobile phones at Wullinkama while the remaining five (5) suspects were clutched at Coastal Road with two (2) laptops and ten (10) mobile phones. Both operations were conducted simultaneously on Thursday 27th June 2024.

Operatives also discovered a red plastic containing some quantities of suspected skunk cannabis.
The suspects were taken into custody and charged for joint possession of a prohibited drug. The mater concerning suspected online scamming and documentation fraud will be forwarded to The Gambia Police Force and GID for further investigations and necessary actions that will be informed by the outcome of their investigations.

It is noteworthy to mention that this is not the first time that operatives stumble upon foreign nationals suspected of being involved in criminal related matters while acting on tip off information on drug related activities. DLEAG operatives alongside GID officers with back up support from the PIU arrested forty-nine (49) Sierra Leoneans, one (1) Nigerian and one (1) Nigerian National suspected to be engaged in criminal related activities at Faraba in the West Coast Region. Prior to this incident, DLEAG operatives had sometime in March 2022 nabbed thirteen (13) Nigerian nationals who were equally suspected to be engaged in online scamming with eighteen (18) laptops, nineteen (19) mobile phones, one (1) router and thirteen (13) passports. The said incident happened at Old Yundum at the suspects in both cases were handed over to the police for further investigations and necessary actions.

Premise on this, it is evident that while we intensify efforts aimed at combatting illicit drug trafficking and abuse, we must also remain alert and focused on fighting other forms crimes and fraudulent behaviours and conducts that have the potential of causing serious physical and emotional trauma on victims, undermine economic activities, lead to financial loss of income as well as undermine the peace, safety and stability of our nation. Therefore, we call on the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious drug and criminal related activities to law enforcement entities because it is only through active participation and collaboration that we can keep our communities safe, secure and drug free.
