The Dallas Mavericks are one step closer to finalizing their roster. The team is signing guard Tyler Dorsey to a two-way contract, according to Shams Charania. Dallas later announced the signing. Dorsey joining the Mavericks is just a formality at this point. Multiple reports from European media indicated that Dallas was interested in signing Dorsey earlier this summer. His two-way deal will be his first NBA contract since 2019. Dorsey has spent the last four years playing overseas. He started his Euroleague career with Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv in Israel in 2019. Most recently, he played for Olympiacos Piraeus in Greece for the 2021-22 season. In both Euroleague and HEBA A1 play, he averaged 11.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists. In HEBA A1, he helped the club to the Greek League title and garnered Greek Cup MVP honors. Olympiacos also made the EuroLeague Final Four last season.

Known as a gifted shooter from the University of Oregon, where he played for two seasons before entering the NBA Draft, Dorsey shot 44% overall with Olympiacos. He also made 38.7% of his three-point attempts.

The Mavericks fall to 0-4 in summer league with their loss to Milwaukee. The Dallas Mavericks fell short on their Summer League comeback attempt against the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night by the final score of 100-89. Dallas is now 0-4 in Las Vegas. The Mavs came into this matchup looking for their first win after being run off the court in their previous game versus the Phoenix Suns. Dallas was out-hustled and deficient when it came to physicality on both ends of the floor.
In an interview early in the game, Mavs forward Moses Wright shed some light on their approach to tonight's game, saying they were "asked to be more physical.” The game certainly started that way as the Mavs jumped out to an early double-digit lead. Sloppy defense by the Mavs allowed the Bucks to creep back into the game. There were several fouls due to poor rotation that gave Milwaukee several free throw attempts as well. In all, the Bucks shot 43 free throws.
The biggest standout performance of the night for the Mavs by far was from Moses Wright, who chipped in 26 points and 11 rebounds. He was focused and tenacious on the glass all night, both the offensive and defensive boards. The team seemed to feed off of his energy. Jerrick Harding also had another strong performance, scoring 16 points off of the bench.

There are rumors stating the Mavs will focus more on adding another serviceable wing player instead of trying to replace exactly what Brunson brought to the table, but secondary ball-handling is something that will need to be addressed in one form or another at some point.
Goran Dragic, who is essentially Luka Doncic's Slovenian big brother and has been linked to Dallas numerous times over the last few years, has already been mentioned as a serious option in free agency with the Brunson news dropping. If for whatever reason that doesn't work out, though, or if the Mavs want some extra bench guard insurance on top of potentially signing Dragic, one secondary playmaker option who would love an opportunity with the Mavs is former point guard Dennis Smith Jr.
"They need [more] athleticism, someone who can get to the rim and play in transition," Smith tells DallasBasketball.com. "It's no question about what I'll bring on the defensive side."

The Dallas Mavericks are acquiring center/power forward, 6-foot-11 Christian Wood from the Houston Rockets in exchange for the No. 26 pick in the 2022 NBA draft and four players with expiring contracts, sources told ESPN. Dallas will send Boban Marjanovic, Marquese Chriss, Trey Burke and Sterling Brown to Houston, sources said, creating roster flexibility and adding a productive big man.

Sources said Houston was motivated to move Wood because the Rockets want to open up playing time for 2021 first-rounder Alperen Sengun and likely the No. 3 overall pick. The Rockets pounced on the opportunity to acquire a first-round selection without taking on any long-term salary.

Wood, 26, averaged 19.1 points and 9.9 rebounds during his two seasons with the Rockets. He is due to make $14.3 million for the 2022-23 season, the final year of his contract.

Upgrading at center was one of the Mavs' primary goals entering the offseason in the wake of their run to the Western Conference finals.

The Rockets now have the Nos. 3, 17 and 26 picks in the June 23 draft.

While Redick was breaking down the film when he threw in a joke about Brunson’s height.

Redick finished his playing career with the Dallas Mavericks after a 2021 trade deadline move sent him from New Orleans to the Mavs. The sharpshooter missed the postseason because of injury and retired after the season. He has transitioned into broadcasting and does a fantastic job save for the slight on his former teammate.
Jalen Brunson is one of the top free agents this offseason, and teams will be lining up with ways to acquire the 6’1 guard. It will be costly and push the Dallas Mavericks well over the luxury tax but expect them to step up and give JB a hefty extension this summer. Until then, there will be some nervousness among MFFLs as they await Brunson's decision.

It’s a blow to the Mavericks’ coaching staff, but not unexpected. This type of thing happens when teams make deep playoff runs. The assistants get noticed, and Kokoskov has been getting attention for the offensive sets he’s installed, specifically his after timeout plays (ATO’s). It’s no surprise Steve Nash wants Kokoskov to draw up some plays for Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

Kokoskov has been a coach in the NBA since 2000, and this will be his ninth team. He’s been in the Western Conference much of his time, but he did have a stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Detroit Pistons, where he won a championship in 2004.

Kokoskov also won Eurobasket in 2017 with the Slovenian national team, headed by a young Luka Doncic. They’ve been connected ever since. Some thought the Phoenix Suns might draft Doncic when Kokoskov was the head coach there. No one was surprised when Kokoskov joined Jason Kidd’s staff to coach Doncic.

Now Kokoskov moves onto Brooklyn to coach another offensive superstar in Durant. The fact that Nash is a great offensive mind probably makes the situation more attractive as well.
