ICCCASU is an international think-tank for promoting sustainable and inclusive urban development in a forum based on the diverse but complementary experiences of Canada, China, and African nations. The conference is occurring every two years and rotates between the three regions to foster a triangular dialogue.

What is ICCCASU ?


The International Conference on Canadian, Chinese and African Sustainable Urbanization (ICCCASU) is an international think tank for exchange and cooperation on issues related to sustainable urban development.
It was founded in 2014 as a joint initiative of UN-Habitat and the University of Ottawa and since then every two years a conference is organised in different parts of the concerned area: 2015 in Ottawa, 2017 in Yaounde, 2019 in China and 2021 in Montreal.

What is its role?

It aims to focus on sustainable urbanization in Canada, China and Africa through a series of conferences and workshops.

Why follow us?and why be interested in urbanization?

Urbanisation, like industrialisation, has considerably transformed societies, and the new technologies associated with industrialisation have concentrated economic activities in urban centres.
To understand the different mechanisms that this urbanisation has brought about in Canada, China and Africa, the different ICCCASU conferences will be able to answer your questions.

During the monthly online meeting of the ICCCASU Organizing Committee held in April 2021, Mr. Rong Yang gave his vision for the future direction of ICCCASU from a macro perspective, taking into account the recent priorities of UN-Habitat.
His advice helped shape a stronger vision for the future of ICCCASU and our 4th conference.
